Yes always great way to learn your way around you bike is to have put it all together. You should get to grips with everything but wheel building and shock servicing.

I think to start off with I'm going to do what adam did and get a donar bike seen a few gt avalanches on eBay which should have everything I need to get going but il prob get a new headset and bb

It works ok, but you have to be careful to keep the cups straight at first before you tighten it fully. Good if you just need it very occasionally and much better for the wallet than getting a proper tool for a one off job.
