Im just about to have a mess around with my Zesty to make a bit more usable on some of the bigger drops without the rear shock having a bottom out problem, so here is the plan i have bought a 200mm i2i fox Van Rc Rear shock x 57mm
with a 500 spring to replace the 200mm i2i rear fox float, the forks are 140mm fox floats i know that aint much travel but i dont want to change them as i am not trying to make a Dh Bike, has any one done anything similar and did it make much difference...bearing in mind i have a full on DH bike anyway..i just thought i might be nice to try and beef this up a bit to see how it handles... over to you....

Whats the dh bike? what travel? and where abouts do you plan riding the tougher zesty?

Why dont you come and have a spin on my Spicy..... Then if that ticks the boxes, you know what you need spec wise

Where did you get the 200mm coil shock?

Why not just use the DH bike? Or set u the rear shock better? If you sort out the compression properly you shoudn't really bottom out unless your doing stuff it's not meant for, in which case you bring out the dh bike.

rear shock Fox DHX-4 w/ factory tuned ProPedal....To be honest its properly just the likes of Bedgebury and that kinda stuff, it started because i have torn the cartilage in my knee (which is due to be done next week) and although i can ride downhill without to many problems i cant sit low on the bike and pedal and standing up peddling after a while has the same affect and due to the design of the frame i cant put a longer stem in,so i reckon seeing as the zesty have a dropper seat post, after comming down pop it back up job done and away i go (maybe) great thing is i only paid £49.00 for the Fox Van Rc if dont make to much difference i,ll just sell it ..if it is ok i,.ll just mix and match with the fox float....

if you want to increase stability over rough terrain try some wider bars
what are the existing ?
a set of superstar bars are only £35 in a 780mm width and a doddle to swap over

Ive spent most of this year upgrading my bike bit by bit to freeride / uplift / downhill but it was a base model and needed doing as
components were basic level. I just swap the seatpost when dh or xcing. One completely cut down and one 380mm that can be pedalled uphill and dropped slightly for the downhill sections of xc rides.

I'd save your money because the bikes limiting factor will be 140mm forks on the front.

The only thing I'd consider maybe a tougher wheels or just a back wheel if your doing big drops, superstar do a dhx wheel front and back for £130 and halo freedom is around £100 for a rear but then thats extra weight to drag up the climbs when doing xc.

should not take to long to be back to normal what ever that is yeah i already have tried the seat post bit...did`nt really work out , But as i said i got the fox van shock really cheap so i will give it a go, the wheels DT Swiss ex500 with hope hubs ok for light downhill ect

First Bit Done just took for a quick ride the rear spring seems good...i will give a bit more stick tomorrow..

Having ridden a bike yesterday that ive never seen in the flesh before ( Orange patriot ) with 180 Fox 36 up front and a DHX at rear with a dropper post, double and bash plus wide bars, id say it came close to a one bike does it all, could hit the jumps at Danbury with ease and pop seat up and ride back to top. was a bit more weight than a Zesty but much lighter than a DH bike and the shock/fork fully adjustable so can be set firm for XC/AM and soft for gravity stuff. And it look seriously sexy in green with white wheels...
