Managed to get out for a quick 30min road blast this afternoon to keep the legs spinning, halfway through I heard a noise from the back, turns out a spoke has popped. Strange it'd go on a smooth road as I've done a bit of xc recently!

Anyway, can anyone recommend a place to get my wheel fixed? I'm in Horndon on the Hill. In fact, if any of you guys can do it for a beer that'd suit me fine!

How much would you expect to pay for replacement?

I was shocked at price back in December.

For someone to replace it for me £20-£25 quid including the spoke.
I'd measure the spoke, order one then watch a YouTube vid on how to change it.

That'd normally be my thinking - but I don't have a tool to remove the rear cassette. Still, I guess it might be cheaper to get a tool & spoke than pay someone to do it for me!

I've not done one before but I'd have a go for you as I'm only down the hill from you. I've built a bike from bare parts but not a wheel. Have a think about it. Cheers.

Spokes give your rim its strength and they're something that shouldn't be overlooked, the rim may need truing after the new spoke is in then pre-tensioned then tightened, its not a black art but takes some work !

From what I've looked at so far single spoke replacement shouldn't be major. As I say see what you think we could do it for pennies rather than pounds.

When I looked a tool was about three to five quid and 36 spokes was 15 fifteen quid. Maybe ebay can buy just one spoke.

Who the wheel builder on here again?

Shouldgetoutmore - I'm happy to give it a go if you are! Its just one spoke and the wheel has only gone a little out of true - hopefully the replacement spoke will pull the rim back in. If it all goes wrong I can always just whizz it down to the bikeshop, nothing to lose really. Drop me a PM to let me know when would work for you - as you say, I'm only up the road.

We do a spoke replacement for under a tenner,
If the wheel needs a good true it might be slightly more but nowhere near £20!
Send me a message if you need any help!
