Have to look if they got 2013 range

I found 510 clunky.

If you don't mind the odd looks the Shimano shoes are good. AM45 are the flat pedal version. (I have the spd version). They are as tough as, well, old boots, and good in the wet too. Apparently not as grippy as 5tens - this may be a good thing depending on how much you move your feet on the pedals.

Also see a lot of people in Teva Links as an alternative to 5 Tens and people seem happy with them. Bit more weather proof than 5 tens. http://www.teva.co.uk/mens-mountain-bik ... GB,sc.html

5 tens still look the nicest though!

Shoe zone, £15, hard sole walking trainer, if your lucky they might have some of the older style basketball type trainer, £12.
Over the years, both have lasted really well despite the epping mud.

Cycle Surgery/Snow&Rock in Romford sell Five Tens, but they are a bit wide and clunky as Laser says. They also don't grip if you have to dismount in mud.
I reckon a pair of trekking trainers with the right sole would still grip well on flat pedals with pins.

I rock some £20 fila high tops from sport n soccer
soft sole grips the pins on the pedal
high tops protect the ankle
price means they are disposable

All good posts thanks, i had chosen these Andy Lewis ltd edition jobs (typical !)

but then the size issue happened, it seems that five ten are wide fitting, which is ideal for me, so a 7.5 should be ideal for me, but they dont exist in this style, only the black ones

kinda like NWlarge's suggestion, might pick up some old Vans from sports direct or somewhere for cheap and just get on with it.

really frustrating

Second the TKMax tip. Bought a pair of mid rise Mistral trainers for £14.99 from there, they look shit, but they've got a nice grippy waffle pattern flat sole, well padded ankle area and a hard wearing leather upper, so it's always worth a look.

Had five tens and they were terrible, big chunky and grip not that impressive, got a pair of shimano am45 cheap on crc and love em, grip on dmr v12's much better than five tens.

Did a silly thing, I ordered the pair of 5ten's that I liked so I could try them on and get them out of my system.....

Still got them on:roll:
