Yea the racing I as you take it. The serious ones do the 2hr racing, the 1 hr one is more fun... The starts are manic as all try for a position. Soon pick em off one by one as the laps progress...
I'm no racer either but do it for the fun and thrill... The Codham park course in Braintree is a particular favourite good long course with some interesting features in it... I will say it is intense for the hour one as your not really stopping just keep on going... I would suggest doing some longer rides beforehand so at least your used to the distances for stamina, normally about a 3 mile a lap and do between 4 to 6 laps...you can of course stop anytime you want to.
Someone from on the forum here I'm sure will be doing some of the races so you won't be a newb for long... See em at the start then the finish...
