Did the Flitch way some years back, good for a family day ride but nothing too exciting. You are better off starting at the Braintree or Rayne end as parking is easier than at the Start Hill end by Bishops Stortford, there is no easy way over the M11 roundabout other than the footpaths that go under the junction.

Flitch way is my local ride. I live right by it at Rayne! From Braintree to Start Hill, Stansted is 15 miles or there about so theere ane back is just over 30 miles. It's fairly easy going but is good for a leg stretch if you ride hard. I ride to and from work in Braintree along it every day.
It's quite hard to get lost on too :P

Well you can start at Braintree, right by the station. The first half a mile or so is tarmac the over a bridge on the all weather surface (sandy hard pack gravel stuff). Slight up hill all the way to Rayne. You can also join at Rayne. The Old Station is the place (now the Flitch Way visitor centre and cafe). You then ride 9 miles to Dunmow, then a short bit on road to rejoin the route again but it gets a bit muddier. Then along a wooden baordwalk bit for a short while and finally about 7 miles to Stansted.

Best park at Braintree for flitch way start (50p on Sundays all day) then ride all the way to Stansted.. I also know the route the other side of M11 by end of runways (best duck here) so all on a good 38 mile ride.. Nice long drawn out hills to get the burn in the legs going.. All weather as well...

No hills and no corners = no fun.

I can see how its a great training run and how you get your race pace, but for a fun day out i need a little spice.

Marsh farm? isnt that a farm? IE not a riding place?

. Wimp :D Obviously the mega hills got the better of you, plus getting lost by the bridge coming back.
