Hi All

Bought myself my first new bike back in December, as I intend commuting into work, been getting fit by training twice a week, one day is trax rope work the other interval training on a turbo, with rides out on the weekends road and offroad.

since doing the offroad I have realised how much i missed being out in the forest, I was an avid BMX rider as a kid and had MTB's back in my teens, obviously quite a bit older now at nearly 42 :) but the thrill is still there, i used to bomb around wanstead park Ilford end all around and out to the wanstead end and round both ponds, we had our own mini circuit and jumps!

the guy I train with actually mentioned that as a club you would be a great starting point as your local and in the scheme of things im a noob and it has been years apart from the couple of offroads we have done recently, which caused me to start looking into getting a new MTB.

My current bike is a Cannondale Quick CX4 Hybrid, more MTB than road, but seems to work well on both, admittely the last two offroads via forest was so muddy I was wheel spinning on the spot :)

basically new looking to get out more at weekends, and wondering if the bike i ride would be suitable for basics or do i need to pick up a hardtail

Cheers
Kieron

Welcome Kieron!

I started to ride to Epping and its bridleways with a hibrid bike after I moved from central London to Leytonstone. Not long after I realised that I wanted to get more mud and I had to get a hardtail because a hibrid would not cope. So I'd recommend you to get a good second hand hardtail to ride. Now that is getting drier I reckon more XC rides will be coming up on the ride calendar on the top right corner.

Cheers for the pointer mate, I have been looking at plenty of second hand and new hardtails, recently been thinking it's the way to go as I want to keep the hybrid seperate for commuting in all honesty, popping to a local bike shop this weekend to measure up so hopefully I will know what to aim for.

Will keep an eye on the calender as for the XC rides, until i do grab hold of a hardtail do you reckon I could run the hybrid?
