Hi im a billy no riding mates from Stansted

travel to tottenham every day and occasionally go biking in epping on the way home which i really like. when i get home i sometimes do a 10 mile loop around stortford which is starting to get boring. i know some more trails in Stortford so i wondered if anyone else rides out about 6-630 in the evenings?
ive just started riding a hard tail, and hoping to learn to love it.

i havent really cycled for 2 years as i got a chest infection and had 2 knee ops. the last time i went out with other bikers, it was with a bunch of guys who meet at Heales cycles in Hyams park, kin hell that was hard, i have only just recovered .

im no good at jumps or stuff like that (i`m 61) but im reasonably speedy down hill, and try hard up hill, and i often find lost things as my head is nearly always facing the ground on the climbs
ive been to danbury a few times and have enjoyed the dips and berms. and over the other side of the road where i always seem to be told i shoudnt be riding in there !
i also have a full suss bike as well as the hard tail

2 knee ops, still riding, good stuff. I'm in Brentwood myself so Thorndon is my local just up the road. Been trying to get out for a mid week ride lately (730ish) when work does not get in the way.
Yes, loads of people seem to go to Danbury, and some nice XC loops as well if you know where to go

i was riding for 3 hours yesterday in epping, i havent been there for 2 years, its still very much the same which is good. i have a new bike so the combination of new bike + inactivity + remembering terrain took its toll, i was puffed out, sweaty with a big grin.
i even managed to climb the hill from the volunteer to high beach without going in the granny, although she does like it once in a while lol.
i will be going to trent park/cockfosters over the weekend with some mates and maybe broxbourne woods.

anyoneone who wants a riding partner sometime over the weekend let me know

Lester, Next time you ride up from the Volunteer If you go through the gate on the left at the bottom of the hill after the new cattle grid and ride up the path, you get a slightly harder climb, on a fire road (no cars to worry about) and when you get to the top you turn right, cross over the road that you've just avoided and then another fire road will take you to the tea hut (opposite the pub)

The fire-road hill (with a grass alternative beside it for the first half) is known as "Cardiac Hill" and is a section on Strava. I hate it!! - mainly because I have to ride it BEFORE meeting my mates to go out for a ride so I'm always knackered before I even meet them!

Not sure what's happening this weekend, but I'll let you know what we're up to if you fancy a ride around Epping again sometime soon - I'm 52, hate going up hills but am fairly quick going down them.

thanks for the info, im up for it. i used to go mountain biking a lot, but i bought a sports car and started going out instead of riding, and put on 2 stone, ive lost 3/4 of that so i want to make the most of the impetus.
