Hi all

Having some rubbing issues with my juicy 3 breaks, I tried the usual and had a google and found some info on setting them up but still getting the same problems after trying the different fixes.
I've loosened the two mounting bolts held the break and done them back up also also after looking it up found out they have "auto adjust" and done the band on the lever trick thats advised...

Is there a manual adjustment where i can move the pads myself? could it just be warped discs?

And one more thing ive been offered 3 pairs of kevlar pads with springs brand new for £15 and im told there the best you can get, any opinions on these?

I find them awkward to, I set them, as I guess you found on the net, by having the bolts a turn from tight pulling the break on and tightening them up. I find if you are about you brake heavly a lot this will usually auto set the pistons back, but as you say they are a bit of a bitch. (i inherited my set from a friend who had enough of them).

An old trick that works for me is to slide an old credit card, between the pad and rotor and pul the break again this reset the piston back an extra mm or so to hopefully stop any rubbing. I'd advise against using the wife's necter card unless you enjoy domestic squabbles.

Just had a crack and i cant even get a card in there!! this may sound silly but could i get thinner discs?

Right, first off take the wheel out, push the pistons back with a screwdriver or leaver. replace wheel.
then repeat as you did first, undo the top bolts, keep squeezing lever until you get a firm lever.
tigten slightly, spin wheel. if it spins, pull lever and tighten fully. spin wheel.
If wheel doesnt spin repeat process untill it does.

Avid brakes are crap for "auto" adjusting, it never works. I loosen the caliper bolts, hold a torch behind the pads and align the caliper by hand.

Managed to get it a little better after prying them apart, still a slight rub though so im thinking maybe some new breaks with a manual adjust on them lol

You may need to let a little brake fluid out to get them apart. If you had a bleed with worn pads there may be too much fluid in them.

Try getting new pads in my Codes then. The pistons just will not budge back to the original position without letting fluid out.

But these are Juicy's. theres a diaphragm in the master cylinder to allow movement.

There's one in the Code too, but it doesn't work as intended. I've had a screwdriver in there and destroyed a pad before the piston moves. If I undo the bleed screw on the master cylinder and push, a tiny amount of fluid leaks out and they go in no problem.

OK, sounds like you have too much fluid in them. when you bleed them do you do it with the pistons pushed all the way back? if not then that could cause your hydrolic lock?

Yep, let all the fluid out, push pistons in, fit new pads, flush through and bleed. Then when it comes to new pads have to let some out. Frustrated me at first but I've got used to it now. Tom had exactly the same problem as me and Karve witnessed at Herts - took him an hour to get one set if pads in
