What do people recommend, whats good about a product and whats bad ? i've been looking at loads of pads from straight neoprene ones to shelled ones, the prices are ridiculous as with anything MTB related so i started looking elsewhere, 661 kyle straight pads £30 but almost the same pad from a wrestling company £16 ! same materials, design identical etc so do we just pay for a name and lump it ?? what about polycarbonate shelled pads, a bit more expensive but if you go to Pro-Tec which were the brand to be with in the skateboard world after Rektor from the 80's they're just £20 but how do the shelled ones cope in a MTB environment :?: :?: :?:

I went for 661 evo pads, as CRC were doing a cracking deal on the 2011 version. Probably wouldn't go for the 2012 ones as they're pretty expensive though.

Are you going for just knee pads, or knee and shin?

Just knee, i went for the 661 Kyle Straight's don't know why really, i've looked at so many over the last couple of days i'm sick of it ! so just went with my gut reaction (and a couple of reviews LOL) they're another one of those possible pink elephant things but can't hurt in the long run !

full face lid next then i'm done, i swear, honestly... :?

Nukeproof Knee/Shin pads are GREAT!

Really cool, and you barely realise you're wearing them :)

Although one of them the fabric inside has started to come away and they're only a month old, need to e-mail them, thanks for reminding me :)

I don't think you can go too wrong with 661 stuff, maybe that's just the marketing and branding that I've fallen for, but it's not desperately expensive, and everything I've had has been good quality.

It's never too early to get a full-face, the first time I wore mine I felt like a numpty as I was just crawling along, then went over the handlebars, faceplanted onto a rock, and took a chunk out of the jaw part

(and again I have no hesitation in recommending 661 lids  )

I just have a look at CRC now and again at pads especially when they on sale and as Jon says you do eventually go nuts looking at all the variations !

Ive got hard 661 knee/shins..for extreme stuff and then also some soft veggie knee ones, ideally for generally riding about and wearing under trousers, saw the hard and huntingdon veggie ones recently v.cheap on CRC so get them as well.

that sucks as i'm slow enough when we go XC but i doubt i'll wear them then, i bought them for when we're at places like Danbury then the weight helps get some speed up going down LOL :D

We have started stocking a few of the EVS range the knee shin pads are only £22.99 which is a bargain. They are reasonably new to the bike market and have originated from the MX seen. www.evs-sports.com
