I am looking at getting a freeride bike. Anyone got any suggestions?

Vague I know but looking for something that can jump and take big hits while going down a hill.

Budget of between £400 and £1000 but the cheaper the better. Was considering a long travel hardtail or second hand full suss?

Id deffo go full suss mate - reasonable new full sussers start at £1500 so best bet may be second hand

old SPECIALIZED big hits and demos are good as are the Norcos and Kona Stabs can be had for 600-800ish on ebay there are a few orange 222/223's too

at that price if you dont get on with it you can probably sell it for what you bought it for.

Id avoid 2nd hand full sus for under 1000.
You do find them in ok condition, but 90% are shitters. Not maintained and shit components.

You's be able to get a very well spec'd hardtail for 1k.

Ive got a Lopes 4X running Revelations. Ive chucked it down most of the DH trails in Wales, over big dj's, over all of Chicky and Woburn.
It rides superb!

I would prefer a suss, but I after watching ebay it seems I am going to have to spend more than I would like at the minute. Going to have to go hardtail I suspect.

So been looking at HT and saw this:

Seems to be a good price and runs 140mm Rev's, any opinions gents? Ugly but has had some good reviews.

You want a nice slack head angle - how about a ragley blue pigh or mmmbop frame. For forks I would go for coil pikes with Uturn - can get good prices on ebay and they are great.

I looked at the Ragley's and was keen to do my own build, but I don't know that I could come close to the same spec as this for : £800

For anywhere near the same money. The Marins head angle is 67.25 and the both Ragley's have a head angle of 67.5, so its in the same ball park pretty much. Wheels are crap, but I suppose that is to be expected.

Fair play - 140mm hardtail should be a good weapon around Cannock mate. If you make it over to style cop let us know what you think.

Thanks Jon, really would love a suss, but the hardtail will have to do......for now, I reckon its gonna be a handful but it'll teach me some skills I can't wait to huck it off something!

First things first - chain guide! Fat front tyre and some wiiiiiiide bars!

Looks like a bargain and is along the same lines as what i have built up in my chameleon - a great bike for danbury, chicky etc.

if you want then super tough wheels and a chain guide going cheap - and given you have already bought a shifter I am sure we can come to some price deal !

Joel I keen on wheels and chainguide but dunno that I will get away with the wheels at the moment. Wife will kill me. But will the chainguide fit double or is it only single?

Understand on the wheels - that is why i am having a clearout to make room for anything new.

Pity its a single, will keep it double for now at least.
