Speaking from experiences today mate, stick to the skinny tyres like what you have.

The fat tyres I had clearly had made me too simplistic on my line choice.

After having a dig about on the net it seems that the Rapid Robs have a bit of a reputaion for being deadly in wet/muddy conditions, although are top notch in the dry. There not that skinny either at 2.25. Gonna run em for a while longer until the weather really turns then see how they do. Otherwise it's going to be a pair of Mud X

Rapid Robs' do sound like from the name that they would be a bit of a "Slippery Sam" in the mud!

can i suggest getting out with your current tyres when it gets damp, try to push them a hard as you can, hard cornering and wet slippery climbs. you'll soon see what they do in the wet. I run bonty XdX in the dry, super fast and grip where you want it, but the first sign of rain or mud, even in the summer and the mud x's go on.
Everyone will have an opinion but if a tyre can't handle the wet, it will slip no matter how good a rider you are, and if it won't grip on a muddy climb, well thats an obvious one. you don't want to be holding back on speed because you can't trust your rubber, use the tools on offer to help keep your speed. the bigger the speed the bigger the grin
I must add though, i do like mountain king. it is possibly the best mid point between dry and an capable wet tyre, cheap too, but don't get the 2.4 like i did . i can't grumble at the tread or the lovely big volume, mud clearance may be an issue.

Schwalbe Dirty Dan. There suppose to be as good as Mud X and lighter. Also check out here website. they have some awesome deals on tyres and also other bits.

The Dirty Dans do look decent, very much like a motocross tyre

Decided on a set of mud x 26x2.0 so picked some up from my local Evans today, look like a decent tyre with a lot more tread then my current tyres

Just spotted these, i use them in 29er flavour 2.4 but if you need grip over epping in the mud, these are you baby's

Been using the Mud-X and have found them superb in the muddy conditions recently, far more planted than the Rapid Robs i had on before..

Thin spimked tyres with massive cleaance between the spikes. The spikes will dig in the narrowness meands you'll dig in and not float onto of the mud and the big spaces means you'll shed the mud quicker.

Speed is your friend, the faster you go the faster the mud comes off the tyre.
