I've got nearly 2 weeks off from the 23rd of may. i don't mind what day we ride it . i could do it anytime as i only work a 4 day week and can swap days off to give me 2 days midweek. we can leave it to nearer the time but we'll stuggle for accommodation. just trying to get a headcount of people serious about doing it. I imagine the youth hostle to fill up before crimbo.

Though you were talking about the paved over train track thats part of the BHF ride but this looks a lot more interesting. :?

Definately interested in this now.

The double record has just been broken.

The new year will soon be upon us and so i think its time to start getting this ride organised. So who wants to take on this challenge?
it will be tough as there is 12,000 feet to climb in total, but don't let that put you off as what goes up must come down! The plan is to ride from winchester to steyning, about 65 mile, on the first day and then 35 mile on to eastbourne on day two. The best way of doing it is to go by train to winchester and return by train from eastbourne, or get picked up from there.
As i say the last two weeks in may are good for me but will fit in with anyone who wants to do it.

Cheers.
Clay

I would be keen to do this, its sort of my Nemesis. I rode this last year and crashed out about half way and couldn't finish.

So I would be very keen to get it done. I would be even more keen to do it in a day?

I could be in for this. Will need to confirm nearer the time in regards to dates.

i've riden the South Downs way a couple of times, but started at Petersfield, which cuts of the 1st 20 miles.

Both times i've done it in 1 hit. Doing the whole lot should be ok as long as there are not major mechanicals.

Don't count me in as I can't confirm any dates. So once you put a date I'll try to do my best to join you. I'm also keen to do it in 1 day.

Can i suggest we try and do it sometime between may 25th to 28th inclusive? We could all start out together and those that want to stop at the hostle at 65miles for the night can and those that want to carry on continue. My only concern in trying to complete it in 1 day is keeping an average speed of around 10 mph for 10 hours while climbing a total of 12,000 feet and then tieing this up with trains.
I don't think we've managed to get an average speed round epping near 10mph?
There are beds still available at the hostle but i should think they'll go soon after christmas, so if your really serious lets get our heads together and get it cast in stone then anyone who wants to join us has a date to go by.

Cheers
Clay.

I'll need to check dates already booked for holidays, etc. but if I can tie in then I'd love to do this...
Preference would be the stop half-way approach, takes the pressure off and would anticipate good fun overnight stop with a few beers :)

I'm thinking of doing it in 1 go late February or early March in preparation for 12 hours mtb race early April. And wouldn't mind doing it again in 2 days more relaxed.

Let us know how your planning it. Are you getting the train from London to winchester then riding the whole route and returning all in the same day?
