Hi guys just want some help and advice on getting myself another bike.. Got a whyte 19 steel at the mo but fancy something a bit more up to the job of jumps and drop offs. I don't want a full on downhill bike cos that's way more than I need. Ideally something with twin front ring set up.

Seeing as i like kona (understatement of the year) i don't think you could go too far wrong with this, lighter than a stinky, more burly than a hei hei. Whats your budget? band new or second hand? ect

Cool.. Well I'd prefer brand new as I know the bike hasn't been abused but second hand is good seeing as you get better bikes cheaper.. Can spend about 3k on a new one providing shop does 0% apr or 1.5k second hand cash.

Dirt 100 list 2012 rates Orange Alpine 160, Saracen Ariel 162, both around the £3k mark from memory, also the YT Industries DH bike for about £2k EUR and they do a free ride version of that. They have lots of nice bikes on that list but I think the rest are over £3k. I think Sunset bikes do 0% and sell oranges.

Some more ?s for you

Have you ridden an FR DH orientated bike before?
Do you want to be able to pedal it? ie are you after a winch and plummet or just pure plummet
Do you want a good frame with a view to upgrade or....
a ready to go bike with no upgrades needed

For upgrade potential on a solid chassis I don't think you can go to far wrong on with a Scott Voltage FR - look out for great deals on 2011 models. It wont pedal very well however.

Commencal supreme 6 should work out ok, or as well as anything with 6 inches of travel will. Intense ss would probobly be the best all round bike ive ever sat on but you may need to morgage a kidney to build one.

like karve said depends what you want it to do on it. If you want a double ring up front then maybe you want more of an all mountain set up?

Nope I haven't ridden one before but Ive got quite an aggressive style and don't wanna destroy my hardtail doing more adventurous stuff.. I'd like to be able to pedal back up to a certain extent Hense wanting two front chain rings.. I'd rather just get a bike ready to go has I haven't got time to build one up. For doing jumps etc do you need a coil rear shock or will an air shock do? Also what is the minimum travel everyone tends to go with?

Thanks for the suggestions guys will look when I'm home and on a proper computer

Despite the marketing bollox there are only two different types of bike, ones you can peddle uphill and ones you cant.
170mm at rear is about the turning point for this.
Its 90percent rider, 10 percent bike
Thought about 2nd hand? If you useful with a spanner or happy to pay for a service, theres some bargains out there as people are skint after xmas.

The specialized pitch is a good all rounder, not quite 6" but 150mm front and rear travel air suspension.
2 chainrings and bash guard and its good at going up hill but I'm only saying this bike coz I got one. there are lots of other good bikes out there.

I used to have the carbon MC20, the LT wasnt out then, but the suspension system makes it ideal for those days when you want to have fun going down and climb back up again!

Cheers for the suggestions and help people

got a few on the list now.....

Santa Cruz Bullit - 2011
Orange Patriot - 2012
Trek Scratch 8 - 2011/2012
Specialized SX Trail - 2012
Specialized Enduro Expert Evo - 2011

Have had a look at the others but these all seem to come with fairly decent kit on them and look nice in my opinion?
