The Marin's headset is a little crunchy of late... sounds like a bag of crips sometimes (eccles will vouch for the noise :eh: :eh: )

So was looking at a replacement... so far only seen this one http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=68774

anyone else got any other pointes for me....

Why not replace the bearings rather than the whole headset?

You shouldnt need any special tools. Top cap off, stem off and catch your forks as they slide out and headset bearings will lift out. It will be the bottom bearings that are fooked. If your bearings aren't a sealed unit, might be an idea to upgrade?

I see the ones on CRC and they are the only one found so far for my size.. I'm open to suggestions on upgrade options but the amount of versions I've seen lately is mind boggling... And with pay day coming up I have something to purchase....

Existing running ok but have to squirt Teflon in there to stop crunching noise and free up...

What's the headset on there at the moment and how long has it been in use? I though it was a cartridge bearing jobbie so you just need to get some new ones of them. But if the headset isn't very old then perhaps it is time for a new one as the sealing might not be too good on the current one. I have a race remover and headset press if you need them.
If you are just doing a bearing replacement then all you need is an allen key and a rubber mallet to loosen the steer.

It's the same as the one in the link I first placed up, FSA No.10 1 1/8 I believe... Change for a different one or replace eom one... Not a bad price from crc either....

For an extra tenner you can get this: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=1164
which is better sealed and has cartridge bearings. Stack height is less though I think so you may need a space or two.

Hmmm looks good, i especially like this bit "this new version features improved cartridges, better seals, and an all new exterior design that keeps more dirt, water, and mud out than ever before.".
