Here we go myOn One Carbon build Diary

I was tempted to go for the black and green, but decided on the plain Satin Black. And here it is...Plain and black in 18 inch Sorry about pic quality, rubbish Blackberry Camera

Image

Just after the pic was taken, the wind blew the frame over and it scratched  Twat putting it there! I wasnt bothered too much as i was a bit disappointed with the finish. After calling On One they assured me this is how the satin frames are so the satin black is just satin lacquer sprayed over the raw frame....This is the finish it came with, not my cup of tea. :(

Image

So the prep work began with rubbing the frame down with 800 grit. And this is the raw finish to the Head tube it came with. Cant think why the 'ol woman got the hump? I cleaned the sink after.

Image

Once the rubbing down was done and frame washed off with the shower :) it was off to the spray booth (well summer house) for priming.

Image

Rather than fook about masking the metal surfaces up i smeared a bit of greese over the surfaces

Image

Out of interest i weighed the frame before painting, and will weigh it after to see how much difference the paint makes (1kilo 410grams)

Image

Here we have the primered frame and flatting the primer off with 1200 grit and once again moaned at

Image

Image

Brake hose and cable clips where deliberatly left on so the colour of em blended into the frame, (thats my theory)

And time for the Matt Black top coat. Just look at that lush Matt black :P Is that better than the Raw finish or wot?

Image

Now she got the hump i've made summer house dirty and dust! Its fooking winter women you wont be sitting in there! So at the moment its a spray booth.

With the top coat done, time to get the Decals made up, in gold. 20 quid twice as much as On One's own gross decals, but mine are custom and unigue.

Image

And applied and purposely applied at an angle, i wasnt pissed.

Image

Image

Now back in to put the lacquer on to give it some protection.....Pics to follow once i done it.
In the meantime order the Forks, wanted fox but cant affored so opted for 150mm Dual Air Revelations 20mm axle

I've just completed a build of one of these and had the same reaction to the finish, unfortunately I don't have the skill or equipment to do anything like you have about it so it's still in stealth mode!

You can't really see it on photos or looking from a bit further away so it's not too bad. I was kinda hoping that it would be like the finish you have now though. Looks really good although the graphics aren't my taste, mines staying naked, lol.

Mines full X9 2 x 10 drivetrain and my trusty Pike U-Turn coils in grey, the bike has a few red accents too.

They do a matt black frame they spray in the factory, but where all out and with On One you never know how long you will wait for any more.

I was looking into the 2x10 set up as i dont usually use the granny ring, but have done so am still un-decided on that, i like to know its there if i need it :|

Any pics of your bike?

Nice paint job.

with2 x10 is it posible to get a spread of gears like you would with 3 x 9? I assume you dont just do the equivalent of unbolting the smallest or largest crank?

If you had 3x9 and went to 2x10 can you get the same lowest and highest gear ratio and then an even spread of through the other 18 gears? or is it a bigger sacrifice?

Hey Carl, no pics as yet as its literally just finished, I'm still waiting on my seat clamp. Ordered 14th Feb from UK Bikestore and it says they're awaiting stock! Boo

I'll try and get some sorted soon and post 'em up. Did you use a compressor or aerosols?

Awesome! looks great.

Have just given mine a rebuild with a few upgrades. Had quite a few nics and scratches so sanded it all down and resprayed it. added a little pin stripe too. Leonard Brookes in Harlow sorted me out with a can of 2K Matte Laquer so has hopefully given it a durable finish. cant believe you dont like the raw finish. I think it looks awesome, like shark skin!

Anyway here is a link if you are interested.

went a bit overboard on the pics. meant to only take a few but got carried away! lol

Cant wait to see yours all finished. you will love it!

Hi Simon, this is all thanks to you lol, i was so impressed with your bike and its performance, I had to have one.

If it had been the same finish all over the frame it wouldnt of been so bad, I could of lived with that as it looked pearlecent in certain lights, but there was square patches of a complete different colour like the head tube in the pic.

Your re-vamp has done your bike justice, it was good before but better now the red stripe works well. You done away with the sun forks i see, and gone down to 130mm? How are you finding the sram rear mech, didnt you have XT?
