Hi,

My bike is 4 years old now so I shouldn't expect to be shiney like new.

I am a bit anal at having a clean looking bike but every time I wash it either with Muc or just water the paint work just looks dull and shows up all the marks and scratches.

I quick spray of Mr muscle does help (avoiding obvious parts like the brakes and seat) and does the job.

Does anyone have any cheap easy tips to get my bike gleaming after a clean.

To get rid of the minor scratches use a cutting compound like faracle G3 which is a mild abrasive. This will buff the paint up getting rid of minor scratches and then use a polish to make it shine. I use G3 and similar products to cut and polish my custom paintjobs to a lovely glossy shine.

^^^ what he said, i use G3 on car bodywork it will cut the surface off and leave it clean and clear of anything so you must polish it afterwards to give it some protection.

You can get G3 as a paste or a liquid, for your bike i'd stick with the liquid as its less abrasive than the paste.

you can buy it at any Car Paint supliers like CARRS etc not sure if Halfords will stock it, but they may have another cutting compound, they all do a similar thing !

Car polish as per above then wax it to seal the paint work.

I thought car polish/cutting compound would be the answer.

I will have do dig out my polishing gear which should be out soon with this weather.

The bike did have a nice laquer coat on when new but obviously has worn away due to cleaning, falling off and scrapes round the trials.

Unityjon, will have to sort out some time to polish the bikes just to annoy the other halves, lol.

Yep G3 it, then put a finish on it with a good polish / wax..... Did the top & down tubes on mine last night, and they look brand new!

Just washed bike sometimes use pleage but none in house, So use back to black it meant for car plastic bumpers & trim.

Seems to have worked.

Mer polish is also good on dull paint work, When i've got time to do mine i will give it a dam good polish and rub really hard

Careful with Mer, It's similar to T-cut in as much that it uses ammonia compounds to.help cut the paint, and over time isn't actually that good for the paint.....

As nick says it's best to wax it after you polish it.
