Hi Folks.

Very early days yet, but Im trying to organise a trip to Morzine this summer, to stay at my brother's chalet.

I've invited friends but most won't be riding and may well be a few places spare so thought I'd post it up here. Ill post more details as things get firmed up.

But prices should be quite cheapish, as a guide...£100-£200 each per week accomodation, flights can be between £30-£80 each way (+£25 for bike), lift pass is 80 Euros. (6 days)

Date wise I'm pretty flexible, the lifts are open June - August and maybe first week or so in Spetemebr, I quite fancy September as it can be cheaper and less busy (no big lift queues).

So maybe ideal if there's not many of you who fancy going, 1,2,3,4

Hi Andy, I'll be all the summer around Alps so I may join you. I've never ridden proper downhill, only bits in Surrey Hills and so with a HT 120mm travel haha! A friend of mine wants to join me. He's got fixed dates, Saturday 7th until Monday 10th of July. I've no idea of prices, renting bikes, armour, lifts and so but want to try. I've got my own accommodation sorted. It's not 100% confirmed for me because I may do with someone else the Tour of Montblanc (4 days ride) between 1st July and 10th.

Summarizing I'd be riding Tour of Montblanc first days of July and the weekend some downhill for 3 days.
If you decide to go different dates let me know, I'm also around Alps until 1st weekend of September.

Lift pass 80 euros, one day or one week?

Also some advice would be appreciated. I don't know which type of bike would be the best for me. I'm not gonna rent a full downhill machine but something more free ride I guess? (see the chart ) http://www.morzine-mtb.com/?catID=230. I'm very light

Rental bikes are shockingly bad. You'll totally regret renting one. They get no maintainance at all, so forks dont move, bald tyres, gears that dont work...hell, one shop tried to hire one to me with a snapped shifter cable.
We had our bikes nicked 2 years ago so had no choice, but it totally ruined the trip having to ride on shit bikes that didnt work.

Shocking! You're supposed to go fast downhill. Any mistake and it could be a total disaster. Better check less crowded places? Maybe bikes have had better life!

A lot of the shops I saw in Morzine had a very good and high quality rental range. Mostly Lapierre Froggys and Supreme 6s. You are going to get what you pay for and Morzine is expensive.

Morzine is a good base for single track - are are some epic lift assisted day trips ( the Col de Cou? I think it is spelt). The good thing about Morzine is it is one of the lowest areas, so it you are away and the lifts stop you generally have a roll home rather than a climb.

Most of the rental bikes I saw were in pretty good shape but expensive, personally i wouldnt dream of renting one, Ive spent a good amount of time and money on getting mine how I like it so I take it , only £25 each way on Easyjet to take it and that would get you 1-2 days bike rental.

As for bike type, well, I'd go for total OTT DH machine and thats what about 90% of the people there seem to have but that wont be much fun if you intend on doing some serious riding everyday, last summer I went with some guys who had XC bikes, and they did a lot of trails including most of the Tour De Soliel but I was more than happy just going up n down the runs on Pleney (Morzine) and Les Gets all the time...but they certainly enjoyed the DH stuff too.

Not everywhere is downhill, whilst the majority of people do stick to the same runs, mostly on Pleney and Les Gets there are lots of others, Mount Cherry and Super Morzine are less used and Dirt mag did a good feature on off the beaten track runs.

All the bikes look good but ride shit.
We tried so many places over the 10 days and didnt find any that were anywhere near a good ride.

I was out there with a couple of guys fropm Fishers who had links everywhere. We payed to get 3 bikes shipped in overnight 2 days before leaving and shared them. Cost us a fuckin fortune, but it salvaged a doomed trip.
Thats how bad the hire bikes are.

What dates are you looking at going?

Hi, I dont use this forum a lot, but I am in the same boat. Looking to go out to the alps in August but basically my normal riding bunch cant make it for one reason or another. I can basically do anytime in august, im a teacher so holidays are set. If you are going in august and fancy taking a spare please let me know.

I might be interested (depending on dates). I've been planning a trip to Whislter this year but can't get any of my mates to come out and ride with me. Thinking of doing a week. I can do any date in September apart from the first weekend.

Howdee. Havnt chatted with bruv yet to find out free dates plus I need to sort sometime when friends are free, so could be anytime really but I'd looking more towards August, late August can be cheaper flights plus area is less busy, or maybe even first week of September (lifts close on 8th).

I noticed that company I went with last year are organising a trip this year too, they are based up north but I met up with at Lakeside and loaded up my bike, etc..Theyve got buses with half the seats stripped out for the bikes, etc.

Ok to add to this.

I may still organise this trip myself but its become a bit of a hassle as many people cant really commit at this date, plus it wasnt working out as cheap as I hoped when you add on the cost of flights, taking bikes, transfers, etc.

Anyway, been chatting to guy I went with last year and he's keen to go again but ideally needs a few more people (5 +) to make it worthwhile, going by coach does mean you avoid the hassle/expense of getting you and your bike to and from the airports (both London & Geneva).

The cost will be £465 but will include.

Dates are 4th - 12th August.

Coach to and from Morzine, local pickup will be at Lakeside Services.

Coach will be large, half stripped out so plenty of room for bikes, bags, etc..I believe the idea is to have some spare seats so hopefully two each (making it more comfy, room to sleep).
