So, here i am nearly 2 weeks after picking up my Trek Rumblefish Elite. I picked it up on 23/4 and, even on that day, i was pretty ill and have been since. I've got a rotten chest infection and a bad sore throat to boot as well. Been off work for 2 weeks and have just been sitting here looking at it!!

The wife has not been impressed with it sitting in the front room all this time!

So, now i have an expensive bike to ride, i was wondering how to look after it. I've looked at a few chains and am favouring this one:

Also, i'm looking to insure the beast so any advice on insurance companies would be appreciated. Or shall i get it covered on my home insurance?

The lock and the anchor are good, but i dont think will the wife will be very warm under that cover probably best put a blanket in there, also i reckon standard Life might insure her, but don't tell them she will be left outside under the cover, While the bike is in the front room ..

Mine is in the garage hanging from the roof rafters by a couple of burly chains (very burly, as it's pretty much hanging over my car!) I just added it on to the household insurance, which just states that it must be "securely locked up". Iif you go with a dedicated bike insurance company they may well be much more specific about what you need (particular types of chain, or mounting/ground anchor maybe?), so best check with them before buying a load of expensive hardware.

Personally I'd go for the household option, it'll probably be considerably cheaper too.

How much would it cost to get a new wife?

I'm pleased to say that thieves so far have not go through that or the locks I've used, even after 3 pretty major attempts.

Chris, you're right. It's a lot less expensive to put it on the household insurance. Its gonna cover me up to £2000 which will do me. And it covers the bike when i take it on away days too. I also upgraded my house insurance to a much better policy for just a little less than i was paying before!!

VW-Surfbum, i don't think it'll cost a lot to replace the wife! And you're welcome to give the bike a go when i eventually get out!!

Mooh, i've ordered the ground anchor you suggested and the lock i was looking at as well. The wife will be pleased when it's out of the house!

great endorsement for the anchor, doesnt say much for cheshunt though, is your bike outside? id be seriously worried after one attempt let alone 3!

Bike crime round here is awful, the bike was in a metal shed locked to the floorbolt and another really cheap bike, there was a single failed attempt about a year ago, but then six months later there were two attempts within a fortnight and now the bike lives in my spare bedroom, which is a pain because I have to clean it every outing, but does reduce my insurance hugely.

Mines in my hallway/ultility room bit hanging from the wall. (Influenced by a Seinfeld I saw once)...Never fancied leaving it outside !
