Thinking of going to thetford forest tomorrow but has anyone reading this been there after a **** load of rain has fallen from the sky? Does it drain well or is it going to be a sandy/mud bath?

Judging by what others have said it just turns into a load of grinding paste and you'll return home with half a bike!

I found the thetford mtb website 'timber' and decided to give it a miss as my kayak still leaks.

I would avoid Thetford, it will be horrible to ride after all this rain.

From limited experiance it takes ages to dry out as there are a lot of areas for water to puddle. The sandier stretches tend to drain ok but a lot of it is loamy, and as its under dense pine trees doesnt get the wind or sun to dry it.

Thetford deals with the wet stuff brilliantly. Been riding it rain or shine for years now. It drains really well. Have done the last 4 dusk till dawn races and the last two have given thetford a bad rep for destroying bikes. The last two were ridiculously wet (raining all night) and when you put 1000 riders down the same single track it gets chewed up pretty quickly and was like having sandpaper in your brake pads. In non race conditions I can't think of a better place to ride in the rain. Will post up soon with a trip soon. Can show you some good stuff.

I was there a few weeks ago, and the parts of the red that they have recently completed maintenance on were like riding through a muddy field. But apart from that most of the red drains well.

Not sure about the black though, never ride it because its beaten to hell.

I know the bits your talking about. Loads of stuff on the Brandon side of the road that seems to stay much drier.
