Ok.... Its kind of been brought to my attention that a lot of the new riders, or low skilled riders out there are reluctant to join the usual Thorndon, etc, weekend jaunts due to feeling like they cant keep up, or are holding the groups back. So, heres my plan....

BEGINNERS DAYS.

I'll personally take any body who wants to come, out on the Thorndon trails (initially) and let the group ride in sections where they can go at THEIR own pace with no pressure, and learn the skills, etc, their own way, with some guidance if need be, so they eventually can get the confidence and skill to join the other groups + learn the off track trails around Thorndon, etc.

The only thing we need to do now is get a show of hands for people who are interested, and a date to kick our first ride off!!!!

ps. Not this weekend coming as busy with Mud Sweat & Gears ;)

That would be great, my only problem is committing to a date before June as work is all consuming at the moment, I'm hoping to be around on the 20th but can't 100% be sure for a few days

I would be interested, might be worth posting up what a newbie should take with them as a rough guide, i am sure most of us know what to take but it would be interesting to see what more experienced riders take with them

The basics to take on any ride may consist off the following.

Drinking water either in a bottle or camelbak
Spare inner tubes & pump
Puncture kit and patches + levers
A multi tool with chain breaker
Chain quick links

I then have also.
Some gaffer tape
Some cable ties
Spare gloves
Riding glasses spare lenses
Energy gels
Small penknife and pliers tool
ID card with all contact numbers and blood group on.
Small first aid kit

You obviously also need wear a helmet to ride with...

Would have liked to come and helped you out Nick.. But can't do the Sunday 20 as I'll be at a show. Saturday I could possibly do..

Here's just a little online tyre pressure calculator i stumbled upon, take it with a pinch of salt, personal prefference etc, but it gives you an idea of where to start from etc.

Excellent idea Dude but I'd also say to all you guys starting out, don't be afraid to just get out and join a ride. It's so beneficial to go riding with others who are maybe a bit ahead of you in terms of pace / ability as this lift's you up to that level (if you're up for it). You will soon see if you stick to what you know your progress will not advance as much as if you push yourself.

It's all fun though so find what suits you.
