Wow considering I've just swaped the bits from my rockhopper and currently running 100mm. The ride is so more like my enduro than the rockhopper you feel more in the bike than perched on it :).

Don't rub it in! Still waiting for a front wheel and some shifters to arrive in the post before I can get building mine :D

How did it all go with you getting yours? Did they give you a newer model in the end, or did you have to go for a different colour etc?

I ended up with a blue one which I actually quite like. I just need some fork oil so I can adjust to 120mm. My wheels are pony and the rockhopper even came with rim brakes. New hoops for Xmas fingers crossed :)

Cool, the 'salt & vinegar' blue? That's the one I was going to get, until I decided on the summer season version.

My wheels are going to be interesting, it'll be rocking a Hope 2 + Sun DH front wheel, with a wtb laserdisc XC rear. Not sure how that'll ride yet, but I was on a tight budget :D

Fork Oil?

When I recently repaired my Recons, I bought the oil from local Motorbike shop as was way cheaper that buying the stuff from bike places...

I bought a 500ml bottle of 5wt (which was what was required for the Recon Uppers) for £7 and only needed 120ml so have enough for next few services which I will do myself :)

Good tip was £5 for 120ml for 15wt rockshox fluid and still not here yet
How long did it take ? as its my first time so not planning on rushing it. gently gently

But isn't the 15wt stuff for the lowers and you only need about 15ml of that as it's only a lube for the lowers, not the hydraulic stuff that influences damping, etc..

I also read in my investigations that instead of using the 15wt stuff and paying through the nose, a better alternative is to use 5w40 fully synthetic oil for the lower oil-baths as it does a better job and is loads cheaper too.

I was so paranoid doing it but it seems ot have worked a treat and the forks were certainly put through their paces post-fix when we did Afan and Cwmcarn 2 weeks ago :)

Just stripped and rebuilt my rockshox rebas. So the 456 now has 120mm up front all going well upon the test ride tomorrow :).
Incase anyone wants to know they are 100 mm rockshox reba 12 purchased from merlin cycles !!

I'm lost, you bought 100mm travel forks and got 120mm out of them ? sounds cool.

I should have said 'most'. You can't do this with some of the newer ones, only 100mm down to 80mm.

That's why I posted Eccles because of the conflicting stories I bought them this year from merlin for the rockhopper so 100mm and 2012 model rebas. Not thinking I could afford a new frame but thought I would have a look stripped them down and are now 120mm. Most merlin stuff is oem so I was going out on a limb. I think it might be different if they came on a bike.
My logic was that the manufacturing costs of different sizes would far out way the cost of inserting a plastic spacer on building the fork up.
