I want to try out some xc trails (don't mind if theres a bit of low level downhill) and I am used to riding a hard tail but have recently got myself a fs xc bike. I live in London and don't have a car so I have been told by some local bike shops to check out Epping Forest...so this is how I found this forum. Any suggestions on where to ride...how to get there...group rides for beginners since I don't know the area...thanks so much!

Welcome....Im sure someone did a how-to-ge- to-Epping in here a while back,. I believe you can put your bike on the Central Line on the above ground bit.

Alternatively....

Join one of the Thorndon rides, all you'd have to do is find your way to Brentwood station. Theres a couple of lads who ride, that are from London and come over on the train, so can't be to hard.... And, personally, Epping is good, but I wouldn't make it out to be as great as its claimed to be.....

Loads of Epping info here

I live in central London for years and found Epping easy to get to :) See you out on a ride soon!

Hi katie... welcome to the forum ... I am usually a regular epping rider but what with the weather and weekend away trips thyere hasnt been to much in the way of decent rides.. having said that Im sure the weather will get better and the trails become drier and certainly more enjoyable very soon. Generally I can make afternoon weekday rides and normally a sunday but as been said just keep an eye out for the rides thread. Hopefully you will get out soon and explore epping as it can be most enjoyable... Happy riding

I ride a hard tail!

I've now changed my plans I'm afraid I'm off to thetford forest again as it looks like its gonna be dry there's 2 of us going. I can fit 1 more bike on my car if any1 wants to come and wants a lift or if anyone wants to drive themselves they are more than welcome obviously...

Saturday's looking better for me - maybe Thorndon because I've heard Epping might still be a mudbath. Let's see if others are going to Thorndon on Sat (I can't navigate it well so have to go with others!).

I'm in Cricklewood and think I could probably get another bike in my car. Would set off from here around an hour before a scheduled ride though...

I used to live in Clapton and took me 40 minutes on the road to get to Sunday's usual meeting point or 15-20 minutes to the nearest single track Whipp Cross roundabout
