Hi Guys/Girls, Just joined your forum and wanted to to say hi to everyone - Hello. I'm from Cardiff, but will be working in Southend (living in Leigh) during the week until July 2013 (travel down Sun night - go home Thu night). I've been trolling through Forum posts get some background on riding down here. So far it looks like Danbury is a hotspot for a quick evening blast. Can anybody give me some more information on Danbury or other local trails? I took a trip to Binacre road to see what the criac is. I take it you reach the car park and hit any of the paths / bridal paths leading out from it and explore from there?

Any information appreciated, I am looking to get back on the bike (Lapierre Spicy 316) next week. I've been off the bike since Oct 1st due to back injury. What I'm really looking for is some local trails to spend a couple of hours on in the evenings to get my fitness and co-ordination back up.

Also it would be good to ride with some of you guys after I've had a few outings in the saddle - looks like a spot on MTB club if you ask me.

Cheers,
Grant.

Hi grant and welcome, there is a few guy who ride around hadleigh if xc is what you are looking for which will be right in your back garden in Leigh. I think most of the riding in Danbury is free ride/dh based. I did ride a lot of xc in Danbury but have had a few years off and on the last two rides have found the internal trail map is wrong :)
Hope you find some rides to join
Adam

Thanks Adam, I come from a DH background (cwmcarn is my local and my mates have an apartment in Morzine), so I'm comfortable with Freeride, however I really need to spend time riding XC and not sessioning jumps etc. I intend to do a few Enduro events this year starting with CRC's Abergavenny Enduro on the 4th August so the clock is ticking.

I tried to find trails in Hadleigh last night - on my commuter bike (I was looking for the Olympic track so I could have a sneaky blast on it when I bring my other bike down next week). - but not knowing the area I couldn't really find anything. If you could give me any information on how to find the Hadleigh trails that would be greatly appreciated. I really need directions for dummies. For example turn by turn from a major landmark in Hadleigh like morrisons.

Cheers, Grant.

Grant welcome to the forum firstly

You can't ride the Hadleigh MTB course yet.. Until some of the little games in Aug is finished ;-)

We do ride on a little part of it on a xc route we do, member surferev is ya man for that and will no doubt comment on that part...

The web site is split up into sections so you can see what bits take ya fancy, xc rides happening most days now and loads at weekends.. Take a look in the rides section for where....

Thanks chatman, just been going through forum posts for Hadleigh rides and I think I should be ok for trails next week. Had a look at andydd, unityjon gps routes on sportstracker etc. Looks pretty straight forward and just the kind of riding I'm looking for :)

Do you think it's anything to do with the Olympic track? I'm sure a lot of people think Essex is full of hills now the track is here!!

Hi.....Welcome.

It was previously possible to have a sneaky go on Olympic track but not any more...the perimeter fence is up now (which I managed to ride into on Tuesday !), and this ruins some of the runs..although there are gaps in it at the moment I guess it will eventually all be closed up, still hadleigh farm/castle has some nice routes and a few short semi DH bits.

Whilst the main Hadleigh Route is accesible from Hadleigh itself (try Castle Lane)..its better from Benfleet or Leigh...jump on a train and travel between those two stops and youll see most of the area.

Thanks for the pointers guys, looking forward to next week. I'll post my routes on sport tracker and reply with the URL so we can all have a good laugh at just how lost I really got! Hopefully I can return the favour sometime when you guys want to visit Wales :) Cheers, Grant.

Greetings... 8-)

Watch this thread http://www.essexhertsmtb.co.uk/mountain-bike-rides/wed-night-22nd-feb-2012-t1900-165.html for updates on our Tuesday night rides... We tend to flip between Hadleigh and Hockley.

This week I've ridden Hadleigh route on Tuesday night and Hockley last night.

There's also a regular ride been set up here http://www.facebook.com/groups/256524227766313/ where a local club has been formed. They set out as 2 groups on a Monday evening and finish up for a beer afterwards. There's the 'Easy Ryders' ride first which is just as it's name, followed a half hour later I think for 'The Bez' which is same route but quicker pace.. Can't remember what time it sets off..
