Just to throw another bike into the mix have you looked at the charge blender (i have one myself) you can get one second hand on ebay for around £500 and it really is a do it all aggressive hard tail. I use mine mainly for downhill/freeride and at my local bmx track but i know it would have no problem what so ever on some dirt jumps or anything you wanted to throw at it. Its only downside is its one size only and if your like me over 6ft uphill isn't that comfortable but who wants to cycle up hill any way.

not my bike btw just the first image i found on google.

Just a little update, I have a bike and it shall be with me hopefully on monday!! I couldnt find any bike that I was confident about, and then I found a Kona howler with custom parts for quite cheap, its going to need a little work but I have enough left in the budget to buy all my armour and upgrades when Im ready for it, Its a full suss but still only made to handle 4x and jumping, so I think will make an ideal bike for me, gotta long way till im kitted out for danbury but I cant wait to get it just start getting out and about again! I have all next week off as well...good times!

Cheers dude! Just adjusting to being on a different style bike then a XC , its the second biggest frame size for the bike but feels smaller then usual, though im sure thats normal for jumps etc? id rather it feel slightly smaller then slightly bigger, its lighter then most bikes ive ridden and its real nippy too! need to run in and adjust the backbrakes, sort out one of the seals around the stem, other then that its a nice bike :D

It's an "all mountain" bike so its designed to be better on downhill than most xc type bikes so it would be spot on for the riding you will be doing.

are the brakes cable?

Nope theyre hydraulic, theres no stock parts on the frame, the bike was custom built onto the frame I think.

Put a run down of the components on the bike and perhaps we can help with how to get it set up a little better?
