Hi there,

just had a chat with my boss and it looks like i'm going to be sent to work just outside Corringham for 2-3 months. i'm just wondering where the nearest mountain biking is? As for what i look for in a trail, well, tough climbs that are rewarded with roller coaster descents with a few cheeky jumps thrown in for good measure. failing this then i'll take what ever i can get.

will be thankful for any information!

Jaime

Welcome!
Langdon hills is probably the closest to where you'll be, more XC there, then there's Thordon, which has some good trails and jumps. I don't live that side of Essex so I'll let the ones who know that area better offer their guidance.

Hi.

Danbury certainly has some 'rollercoaster' runs, its more North essex, but not too far to drive or Ive been getting a train and riding from South Woddham Ferrers or Chelmsford, nice rides from either.

Hadleigh (home of the Olympic XC) is always nearish, but some of it is now fenced off in readiness for August but still quite a bit to ride there.

Just been messing about with a new cheap headcam, heres some Danbury stuff (the short DH runs). > http://youtu.be/RBwNtVvHl6Q

I've finally got my self settled in and have been out to Thorndon and Laingdon Hill. Both were very gentle XC. Could someone tell me how to get to the free ride/jumps at Thorndon? I'm hopefully goint ot get up to Danbury next week for a look too. Are the more interesting trails up there easy to fine?

The XC at Danbury is tricky to get going but that just be because i only really ever head to the downhill(ish) section where there are 4 or 5 runs that are only 0.3 of a mile each but you can session them pretty much all day ! plenty of jumps etc on each one and they all sort of link up at many different points.

warley is where the dirt jumps are at Thorndon, head for the go-kart track.

Where should i park inorder to have a play on the downhill sections at Danbury? i was thinking of travelling up later. does it need to be dry or do the runs cope with the wet ok?

We're over there tonight, park at the top of the hill, not the bottom,.there's a main car park as you drive up and a smaller one if you cross the round about by a village green, from here to get in ride down the main road a short distance and turn left into"gay Bowers lane", no really lol, then rode along to the main start which is a track on the left at the top of the hill again.
