Guys looking into 1X10 speed as Gary will need an overhaul soon and like for like replacement of my worn parts is looking very pricey........
the options are....

shimano saint rear mech and shifter.
shimano ZEE rear mech and shifter ( new cheaper version of the saint, i think)
or Sram x9 mech and shifter. all short cage.

with a 12 x 36 rear cassette and 32 or 34 Renthal chainring up front.
not sure what chain guide yet, any suggestions?

your thoughts, criticisms, advice and experiences welcome.

Cheers

Clay.

They are good plans. I use an mrp mini g2 chain guide and it is remarkable how little drive train drag there is.

Hiya.

Ive got the older (2011 or 2010) Saint rear mech and gear leverswhich are 1 x 9, you should be able to get em a bit cheaper now the new Saint stuff is out.

Ive tried few different sizes but settled on 12-36 Shimano cassette (forget which model but cheapish) and 32 Blackspire upfront, and MRP MinG2 chain device, very quiet and smooth.

Feels the right ratios for me, Im not the fittest but can get up most hills in first and normally ends up in 4th/5th when downhiling and only upto 9th once.

MRP do various variations steel/ali and iscg/iscg 05 and BB mount, if you search about you can get hold of almost any colour but places like CRC normally just have black/white.

Some of the new zee stuff is coming through now and it all is looking very good for the money. The clutch system that is on the 2013 shimano short cage mechs seems like it will stop a lot of the chain slap.
If you are going for the 1 x 10 you may as well go for the 11-36 option just to give the max rage. the cheapest cassettes aren't the best way to go. always spend a little more on one with an alloy carrier 1. they are a fare amount lighter. 2 they are far less likely to damage your freehub body. . most people would run a 32 or a 34 up front we tend to fit salsa chainrings (as they are available in loads of sizes and colors) or the renthal ones as they are really well finished.

i like the Straightline silent guide as they are quiet and seem to fit really well. The MRP ones work well and for a cheaper one Gusset one is ok too.
Have a look on here www.ison-distribution.com for chainrings and chain devices.

Thanks Dan

I am edging toward the zee kit, it does look good for the price.
