Hi

I'm riding a Boardman FS Team and i am running Continental Speed King 2.1" tyres but find them a bit too slippery in mud. I am fine with them in the dust and dry trials but i have NO confidence when riding in the wet stuff!

What does everyone else run on their XC FS or HT??

I need to have the tyres to give me the reassurance it wont sh*t itself everytime i pick up some decent pace

Ryan

There is never a right answer to this question as everyone has their favourites. Here's mine:

Bontranger Mud X or Schwalbe Dirty Dan in the Mud - they are almost identical. They don't roll to badly and you could leave them on 8 months of the year (12 this year! :lolno: )

When it dries Schwalbe Nobby Nic front and Racing Ralph Rear seems to be working well. I've also used Intense System 3s and liked them but I've gone tubeless and they don't work well.

I was looking at the mud x so it's reassuring you lot seem to be liking them! The speed kings I have got are 2.1, so not sure to get 2.0 or 2.2!

Depends if you are of the 'cut through it' or 'float on it' school of mud riding!! The 2.0 will come up quite narrow.

You could always get a 2.0 for the back (where clearance is usually tighter) and 2.2 for the front where you might like a bit of extra grip.

The 2.2 will probably be a bit better when the conditions are 'intermediate' i.e. not thick gloop.

I can't believe we are discussing mud tyres in July.

Got to love British summertime haha!

2.2 front and 2.0 rear sounds good! It's the front that concerns me the most, all the bike reviews said its let down by the tyres, so it's not just me being a fairy ;-)

Cheers guys
