So I finally get one bike click free and now my Cube decides to have a clicky front end. Its worse over jumps and downhill sections. God knows where exactly its coming from. All the bolts are tight enough and everything appears to be where it should be......

Also, the brakes appear to have gone to mush. Far too much travel in the levers and the rear brake hardly works at all!

Am I just abusing the fuck out of this bike or am I missing something really obvious?

Have you got any leaks on the brakes? or they may just need new pads and/or a bleed
as for the clicking, its a minefield trying to find where its coming from, i would lube and double check everything bit by bit to see if you can narrow it down a bit mate and find the cause

The bikes only covered 300 - 400 miles but I was thinking bleeding too. No sign of any leaks.

Karve has a spread sheet he's put up here before, it lists the areas to check one by one.. Creaking bikes can be anything and not always obvious.

As for your breaks I'll say they need a bleed...

Hey, I have a cube stereo pro aswell and my front end creaks quite abit. I don't think it's any thing to worry about ( fingers crossed ). it hasn't affected the way the bike operates.

If the front end is creaking and you have checked the obvious like brake calliper is tight, wheel is tight etc... id start with the headset

they are easy to take apart.. usually only need an allen key and a bit of a clean/grease may also help.

Cheers guys. I have to get a bleed kit. Can I get a generic one or do I need one for Formula brakes? They seem pricey!

As karve says I'll look at the headset firstly and check all bolts etc for tightness, also check the disk rotor bolts, I had a loose one and it made a creak noise....

Its highly likely that its the frame, its a common problem with the cube full suss frames, basically they creak under any stress e.g why its worse on jumps and dh.
im speaking from experience im afraid as i had the exact same issue with my old cube full suss. it spent more time in the shop than what i rode it, i even had a new frame shipped direct from cube but it made no difference.
some people dont mind the noises but it drove me mad and in the end the shop agreed to a refund (after getting agreement from cube).

as for the brakes, surely they dont need bleeding after only 400 miles! they only need bleeding if there is a specific issue, leaking or a loose seal is letting air in the system.

For the brakes, try leaving the brakes held on with rubber bands round the levers overnight and see if it takes the mush out. If not, assuming no leaks, it'd be a bleed I'm afraid. Avid bleed kits fit formula brakes, you might find them for a better price than the formula ones. I have one you can borrow if you're near Colchester...

Anyway, I just checked all round the bike. No loose bolts, no leaks, nothing obvious. I took it for a little road run and the creaking is really bad. My nearest Cube dealer is Cycles UK in Romford. I'll be dropping it off tomorrow. Finger crossed.

I got mine from cycles uk in basildon, dont let them fob you off with "theres nothing wrong with it" etc, which is what they first tried on me, i then spoke to their head office in rayleigh and only then did they start taking it seriously and things started to happen.

good luck mate...its a shame coz apart from this problem, the cube bikes are excellent but this has put me off buying another one.

With tear in my eye my baby's officially gone sick. When I showed the guy in Cycles UK he said I might have to seek costs for repair from Cube directly! Don't think so! It's gonna be in at least a week I think. Boooooo!

Keith, out of interest, what Cube did u have and how old was it?

I had a 2011 ams 130 and mine didnt even last 2 weeks before it was back at cycles uk, within the space of a week it was back in there twice more before i got the arse ache and demanded they do something, thats when they contacted cube and arranged a replacement frame. when this didnt work they agreed to refund me....i actually accepted a higher value replacement bike (trek fuel) and they covered the difference in cost.
dont let them palm you off mate if they cant sort it, its not your responsibility to contact cube, they should do it as your brought it from them and therefore your contract is with them, not cube. as soon as i wrote to their head office quoting the sales of goods act and that the bike was not fit for purpose, thats when i started getting somewhere. i dealt with a guy called danny taylor who is their area manager, he was excellent and sorted out the refund/replacement pretty quickly after that.
