So at somepoint Im going to spray paint my bike frame and possibly the swing arm too, Im a 'proffesional' spray painter by day but work with military matte paints, So im looking for decent polyeurothane or epoxy based paints that I can use with my spray gun, none of this crappy watery can stuff.

Im not planning to do this right away but wondered if anyone else here had done a proper job on their bike or know of a good retailer, was thinking motorcycle paint might be my best bet though works out pretty expensive as the quantity you need to buy . Anyone got any experience with this let me know

I dont know but my collegue has informed me an automotive paint shop on canvey will give you what colour your after with the correct primer and lacquer and in amounts that you want, so might work out cheaper then buying a huge tin, its definately worth looking into thats for sure. Its more the effort of reassembling bike re doing the brake oil etc of waiting to actually do a paint job

That will be CARRS on canvey, one of the very few places left that will knock you up a batch of 2K and not ask questions, just use a good mask

I have a purpose built booth, ovens, and full suit air fed mask at my disposal! And ive just found decent kona decals on ebay to replace on the frame, this idea is getting some steam!

Water based paint shouldn't be an issue either to be fair, a lot of people moan about it, but its how you set your pressure / fan and the temp you paint in that makes the difference. 2k is harder when dry though and often you dont need clear as it shines up good but clear on top will provide more protection i guess.

Its just thinner thats all, the coating wont be as thick, as you say it wont be as durable and will require more coats, I work all day with poly and epoxy coats so would be working in known territory as well,

Putting it together is no sweat mate just don't over do the paint on the bearing seats

can mask them, Im thinking maybe I could do inbetween fitting a tensioner and doing some general maintenance like greasing headset etc.

Aha..yes..I bought paint from CARRS before and then mix/thin it myself. No idea what's needed for a bike though as I just had mine balsted/sprayed at place in Southend for reasonable price.

I just had my frame and swing arm painted. They used moped paint as you get some pretty funky colours without having to pay stupid money. I paid £40 including sand blasting the frame clean. Mask up bearing housing and your away!

Thats about the price of powdercoating a frame, that normally includes media blasting first also ?

Play dough or plasticine works well for masking nooks, and threads. Decided on a colour yet?

As bright green as possible, I have proper masking materials here so dont need anything like that, Im stripping the frame this aftyernoon, andy broke the bike down for me last night, Mattuk1 where did you get that done? I would like to spray myself but if its that much cheaper I may as well just give it to them!
