I am 38 (thought I'd get that in early so we can forget about it!).

I used to have a racer many moons ago, bought a hybrid bike a few weeks ago to get back in the saddle. Enjoying to leisurely road cycles - did 20Km the other day, which for me was a long way!

Anyway, I am guessing I may need something more solid if I go off road, but keen to learn more about the mounting biking opportunities. I am near Chelmsford in Essex, so not sure if there is really much anyway.

Plenty of riding to be had around Chelmo and surrounding areas, but if your going to go offroad you really need a proper MTB so you dont break your bike and hurt yourself.

I did this route last night, nothing that your Hybrid couldnt handle really with the correct tyres?
