Hey guys im just wondering what people use on their bikes i currently have wellgo big foots, but im toying with the idea of spds... ive seen a few guys doing cross country with them.

am i being stupid in thinking its worth it or should i just stick to a pair of skate shoes?

im looking at shimano m520 pedals
and shimano m064 shoes...

Ok well im not one for jumps etc im lyterally doing this for fittness more than anything else. my main haunt is thetford and just along the river stort etc,

like i say im not really into the stunts in a big way just trying to boost my fittness and lose a few kg.

i would do road riding but i find it sooo boring!

so this is why im here :)

Im loving my Nukeproof Neutrons, they also do cheaper Protons http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=53215 coupled with Vans.

Wouldnt mind trying SPD's but have a feeling they wont be for me.

The only reason im considering it is my shins always get ripped on my pedals and from what i hear i should be able to ride more efficently with spds due to pulling on the pedals aswell as pushing... could be a complete waste of money but i dont know anyone with some to borrow.... :(

I pretty much always wear shin n knee pads.
perhaps it is the trainers that are the problem, maybe try some different ones

I've been using SPD's for years for XC. For that they are great, definitely more efficient pedalling. Only real disadvantage is you will fall off because of them, normally in a comedy slow motion fall as you come to an abrupt halt and can't disengage your feet quick enough! However the more you use them the better you get at unclipping early or quickly. I ride with SPD's nearly all the time although I have a pair of V8's, which always take me a while to get used to again.

I've been using spds for the last week as abit of a trial, It will take a few rides for you to get used to them, clipping in and out has a certain "nack" not very hard atall tho.
I def think that it has improved fitness abit, my legs have felt more used after rides using them. If you husy want to get fit and ride general wood/forest terrian then there great.
I also have a set of nearly new spare spd pedals for sale.....!
shimano xt, like these.

I use M520s - I've got them adjusted as slack as they can go, then back in to the first click. Basically this means that as long as my feet are straight on the pedals they don't come out, at least they haven't done yet. But unclipping when required is really easy - in fact I'm considering tightening them to the next click. haven't fallen off as a result yet, but now I've said that, I'm expecting it to happen. having said that, I've been riding various SPDs for years so I guess I'm used to the now. If you hdn't already ordered them I would have suggested M545s because they have a platform around them, so you can unclip for a technical downhill and still rest your foot on the pedal without accidentally clipping back in! AND because the spd part is spring loaded, you can wear ordinary shoes as well.
