Not disputing the fact that most mudguards do the job. For me though, they are just something else that adds weight and provide somewhere else for the mud to accumulate. Personally I'm of the opinion that if you don't want to get dirty, then don't go out playing in the mud!

If the general concensous is to do without and get filthy, I would much rather spend the £25 on some SealSkinz socks. Plus I imagine riding with all the crud on the guards will just add weight.

If your frame has the studs, get a front crud catcher. Personally I think the rubber band fitting way is a p.i.t.a. and makes a mess of the paintwork. Depending on how hard you want to ride in the future, a pair of knee pads. 661 rage are quite low profile and not too bulky. Handy to have for places like Coed and Afan (lots of rocks). Hope Sh1t Sh1fter is a good cleaner, less abrasive and Chelmer Cycles will tell you to torch any cleaner by Muc Off.

But rear mud guards are strictly off limits, they work, but off limits. Like looking at top shelf magazines, you want to, but know that if you're caught the embarrassment will destroy you!

After all the replies I have made the easy descision of not getting a crud guard. It doesnt make sense and as many of you have said, they do look a bit soft. I am just going to get filthy this winter and I can not wait...

Just looked up the Benders Fenders, and although a gay name, they look the part and a little cheaper than the Neo Guard.

The Neo Guard comes off nice and easy and you can wash it. I've read the rear version of the bender fender is about as much use as fly screens on a submarine, but I have never had one myself.

We also noticed that grit and mud caught by the Neoguard has a tendency to dribble down the fork arch onto the seals, so it's important to clean this off on a regular basis.

I've not experience more crud on there than when i didn't have it but i get what they're saying. The neoguard straps wrap around the front of the fork arch, i guess you could wrap them around the back to eliminate that issue as the guard would cover the arch ?
