I'm thinking I should be getting myself some elbow pads before the session?

I've already for my 661 knee/shin but feel it might be time to protect the elbows.

Any recommendations? Would like something that I could use for my winter xc riding too.

Why the padding?

Just to protect the extremities really.

I don't intend to knock myself about but just conscious if I'm spending more time off the ground then I could be increasing the odds of it happening?

Or maybe I'm going soft ;)
