Hi
not been on her long and already entered myself into an off road duathlon :wtf: ,fairly confident in my running ability, but will be first real competitive MTB event. Very excited about the 8km trail run either side of 16km on a bike.

I'm after some advice on what gear I should take if any with me on the race, will probably have a inov8 pack with a 2l camelbak on my back. Apparently I have to carry any gear for repairs with me. The race is taking place in an army training ground in Surrey and supposed to have some monster hills :? and covers a mix of rocky and probably muddy terrain.

The second question is about tyres, if it is muddy should I stick with my Mud X tyres on convert to a more standard tyre have some continental X Kings.

In advance, thanks for any advice

Andy

I would take a gel, have it early, pack light, dont overdress, its only short, some knee warmers if you really have to,

punture kits in a saddle bag, water bottle no back pack. multitool

Stay loose

My point was really that you dont want to eat anything really at the start of the ride as its too short to digest before you have to start running again so i would go with gel perhaps at the end of the run and start of the ride.

pack light

Location: Wrapped round a tree or eating dirt
A decent multi-tool with a chain breaker on and a spare link as well as a puncture repair kit. The amount of people in the X-country races my mate rides that have to bail because of chain snapping amazes me.

Chain tool, multitool, chain links, tyre levers/tube/pump/co2 inflator. Food and drink.

Not sure you'll need mud-x, if its army land thats closed off to the public, the trails stay in good condition but three laps it might get churned up.

good luck
