I've used spd's since the dawn of time (I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the years I've been riding)!

2 Years ago, after my first trip to UK Bike Skills, I took the spds off and spent a year on flats. At first it scared the hell out of me as I kept parting company with the bike. I persevered and it really improved my bike handling. At the moment I have the spds back on but I tend to swap around quite a bit now.

If I had the space and money I'd probably have a hard tail with clips and and a full sus AM bike with flats. As is, I have a hardtail and two sets of shoes and pedals! With flats its the the shoe that makes all the difference.

Loved riding on flat pedals today Mallets not so good:( so looks like I need to order some V8s this week.:)
I was blasting over slippery bridges and roots with a grin again rather than worrying about being clipped in !!!
