Attempted a brake bleed, which turned into an arse if a job when I found two pistons had seized. Sorted it and did the bleed, but wondering if I should have put some lube or oil on the pistons after cleaning them? If so, what's best to use?

Your brakes never work and you also hit everything with a hammer ;)

To answer my own question, it seems the best thing to use as lube is the DOT fluid itself. Anything else can damage the seals. Mine should be well lubed then, as should the kitchen floor, frame, rotor, tyre..

Whenever you get DOT anywhere neutralise it with water straight away! Its lethal stuff, No lube just dot on the pistons would make sense if they have seen better days.

But make sure its not enough that it'll get anywhere near the pads though.

The bike got a hose down after, but not immediately. Wasn't expecting the piston to fall out, so the DOT flood that followed wasn't planned. The pad then got a soaking later when I pumped the lever with the caliper syringe still in! Its a tough learning curve.

If you have wood flooring, brush it in and say you were "varnishing" the floor :)

I found that - a cloth just moves it around. Everything got a good hose down after I'd finished.

After much trial and error and around 5 bleeds (due to various mistakes) I've got it down to under 20 mins now. I've also discovered that a pad soaked in brake fluid is essentially useless, except for using to spread the pistons or as a loud honking musical instrument!
