The coil on my dhx5.0 is a 400 x 2.45 i've never sat on it or used it, its second hand so i want to replace with something new because i dont know its history, i'll live with the shock for now, I've looked on TF tuned and guess i'll need a coil rated 523 ideally so to be on the safe side i'll round up to 550 as thats what is available but i cant find a 550x2.45 (2.45 being shock stroke)

am i missing something here

Is the 2.45 actual stroke or what is marked on the spring?
if you are near the shock measure the actual stroke and make sure you measure to the end of the shaft not just to the bottom out bumper

Also did you measure on or off the bike?

Just whats marked on the spring, I've taken it off the frame as part of the strip down refurb but have only just started looking at all this waffle, will get some details later.

According to fox's website they only do up to a 400 x 2.45 perhaps its linked to the leverage ratio ?

I can create a custom spring by modifying a shop bought one, done it with a couple of lowriders to get the desired ride/bounce effect without wrecking the handling, works a treat too, this page explains all the basics, its a bit of a read but makes good sense and more importantly works so If i cant find something off the shelf that damn close i'll modify one to be what i need..

Still hunting for the correct spring, found a bloke from Exeter on pinkbike advertising Ti springs for £90 as sprung-loaded.com but there's no such website :0/ there's a place in France offering Ti for £150 which is pushing it a little, especially as i have nothing to refer this too.

I measured the coil last night and its 2.45 stroke length (not counting the two end winds) so that translates to a 3" for every other manuf. making this easier to locate just need to decide do i want a 500lb and it be a bit softer or a 550lb and it be a bit stiffer, can i eliminate the difference either way with the compression/rebound and pro pedal settings on the shock ??

Is 2.45 not a fox spring ? Thought it would be 2.5 ?, also some companies measure differently and use diff numbers just for confusion. Just looked at mine, its 400 x 3.00 i like it pretty soft although im not doing huge jumps or drops, dunno my weight havnt stepped on scales for yonks, cant be that light though.

New (steel) shocks can be got for reasonable cost but new Ti ones are silly money ive had a few second hand ones, mine was just under a hundred I think second hand.

Yours is 400 x 3.00 which means they have measured the end winds of the coil which actually offer no stroke or compression.

further to this, i am a dumb-ass !

I just weighed myself holding all my gear except for a full camel back and i only weighed 187lbs i thought i was a lot more, so just over 400 will probably be right for me, and means many more are available.

Do u know what the exposed shaft length is?
