Just picked myself up a new steed the only thing that lets the bike down is the pedals
so i need to replace them
so what would people in the know recomend
still a relative beginer and budget is always a priority
should i go spd and get used to them from the start or go for standard pedal and trainer
cheers paul

I used this SPD http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=67249 find very good and now is only £24. Flat pedals I'll soon get one moove http://moovemtb.com/torque-flat-pedals-thru-pin also you have the superstars that are very similar.

I've gone back to flats for a bit Dmr V8 cheap as chips and have as good a grip as ever.
Clip less I run crank bros various available candys can be £25 notes new with cleats and mallets have a cage. I find the float in crank bros better for my dodgy knee :)

For clips I run Shimano SPDs: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... tAodOE8Ajg

And for flats I would recommend any Nukeproofs: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=85858

You say relative beginner so I think you should learn mtb on flats so you learn how to move the bike, and can bail when you inevitably stack!

I have DMR vault pedals which with size 13 wide feet are the widest I have seen and are also super low profile, light and very grippy. (But £100 so perhaps not beginners or cheap!)

I went with some DMR V8'ws only because i'm a bmx kid from the 80's at heart and they're the closest i could find to Shimano patforms :?

I've been riding my superstar pedals for 2 years and their amaing. Never got on with DMR V8's, always found them not great for the money, that may just be my experience however.
