With the new build impending i'm trying to get my shizzle together, i've bought a Zee rear mech with a clutch, does this mean i no longer need a chain device, or should i run both

It means you could in theory but in practice I think most need both

Try it without and see how it goes maybe?

That would mean dismantling the crank to get the device off, not sure i can be arsed with all that ?

You could probably save at least 200g if you take it off though?

Wahhoo. I've still got both. Just been messing about with mine, the chain can still flap about a bit but so still think you need chain guide but Ive seen mags suggest that maybe only the cheaper top guide would do like the Superstar one > http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=362

I think the other advantages are less noise and less damage to rear triangle by the chain, was looking at it last night and intruiged as to how it works, I dont think it works like a car clutch where pressure is taken off when you are changing gears, more that it knows what gear it is in and allows the mech to go forward or backwards depending on how tight or loose the chain is and then 'locks' it in position..or i could be talking rubbish
