So far here is the list...

Trek Remedy 8
Trek Slash 7
Felt Compulsion 50
Nukeproof Mega AM

I've also seen a few DH bikes on ebay cheap but it's hard to decide what to go for. I already have a bike for XC which I'll keep so do I go for a DH bike or something in between? I would like to start doing some trail centres this year nothing major but don't want a bike that's going to limit me to what I can do. My bike with all gear weighs about 16kg's at the minute so I don't think I'll have any problems with peddling something a little bit on the weightier side.

Prob depends where you are gonna be ridding, most local spots don't really 'need' a full-on long travel DH bike but they sure are fun (but less so when trying to pedal uphill), BUT if you are planning on going further afield, Wales, Alps, Whistler, etc..then they really do come into their own, not neccasarily in terms of doing huge drop/jumps but in terms of stability/comfort/confidence.

My friends got a house in the Pyrennes that I go to once or twice a year. It's close to Ax les Thermes and Andorra so I was gonna use it there. Plus i wanted to go Afan over the summer but not with a hardtail. I'm swinging towards a trek Slash at the moment. What do you reckon?

There's a couple of bikes on ebay. A trek session 88 and transition TR450 too I'm looking at. I was thinking If I kept the hardtail I can use those at the trail centres? Is that possible or would they be too hard to pedal uphill at all?

Its near on impossible to oeddle a dh bike uphill for a length if time! You can do it obviously but it really defeats the point over owning one.
Sounds like you would be better of with a beefy all mountainn bike

I use a trek remedy for my everyday bike and have a commencal v3 dh bike.
The remdy is a step up from xc trek fuel range and is brilliant for uk trial centre's. Will climb well and descend well. The slash is the next step up from the remedy, bit stronger/heavier, descends better than it climbs but will climb ok. A few people on here have the scratch (similar) to the slash and really rate them.

If you have an xc bike I would go straight for a dh bike
A tr250 would keep it more managable if you don't wan something too full on

After trying out a 120mm travel Whyte 905 on a black trail at llandegla this weekend i can happily say that a hardtail xc bike is ok at trail centre, however I would of much prefered it with a bit more travel up front, the rest of the weekend i rode my full suss as its more fun/manageable on the downs.

Id say get a 140-160 mm full suss trail bike and ride everything on that, if your not riding trail centres now then realistically your not gonna be rushing to go off any big jumps or drops.

A friend of mine was on a Trek remedy 8 in wales this weekend and he flys up and down everything, only uses his dh bike for proper dh stuff,

If you can, head over to Llandegla and test ride some bikes over there, they have loads of top end bikes to test ride, I wanted to test ride a yeti sb66 but i knew id want it so avoided the temptation.

Ask deco about his trek he has progressed quite a bit on that, he has now changed to a scott voltage to cater more specifically to his needs

Just an update I ended up buying a Trek Remedy 8. Not picked it up yet but think I'm gonna head Danbury first to try it out next weekend. Looking forward to it. From what I've heard though the Fox RP23 could do with changing to the Monarch plus RC3 asap.

Rp23 will be fine. Great bike. A mate of mine has one and we've done Wales twice and tons of local stuff.
