Bit odd, i bought a deore groupset the same as i have on the other bike and uprated the front derailleur to an XT 2spd and binned the original chainrings for two of choice

when i fitted up the levers not paying a lot of attention as i've done it on a previous bike i had issues with the rear mech, when i actually looked at the shifters the (normally 3 speed0 for the front was on the opposite side to my old bike ? so i have two bikes with the shifters swapped over ! how wierd.....

They're 'the other way around' the last set i had, this set has the front mech on the right and the rear mech on the left, not sure what the 'right way round" is ? not sure it will matter a great deal to be fair, just thought it was odd i've heard of brakes being 'the wrong way round" but you can just swap hoses easily...

the question is why are different places using different orientation ?

I dunno but in the us and some of europe they use the brakes the other way round perhaps they do it with shifters too

Its to do with what side of the road you drive, Left hand on the brake while turning right Etc. as for gearing, i always thought that they were the same? Rear on the right front on the left?

Back on topic in here, rather than in the photo/video thread ;)

rode the bike for all of 60 seconds last night along the road and back, the rear shock feels very very soft, i measured the sag and all that jazz, i've downloaded a manual for it (FOX dhx5.0 coil) and also watched a pinkbike tech tuesday on setting it up, the manual makes common sense reading and i followed that for each setting, the pinkbike vid says you need to do things in a certain order ? no mention of that in the manual so i started at page one and went through, the manual does things in a different order to the pinkbike vid :?:

whilst on the bike i tried a simple bunny hop and because the bike soaked up all my pre-load i almost launched myself into a wall and failed to hop at all.... a horrible feeling ! deciding it was all to soft i put it back in the garage but thought i'd check the pressure, i initially set it at 125psi to make all the other settings, when i checked it it was right down to 100 so i pumped it up to 200 and the bike seemed a lot firmer but i didn't have time to actually sit on a ride so there is some work to do here understanding what does what as the shock is maxed out at 200psi apparently

I have the pro pedal wound right up to max, the bottom out wound right up to max, the boost control wound right up too ?

pinkbike vid here

I have no ideas of the previous life of this shock so it may be fubar'd ? or i may just need to swap put the 450 coil for 500 or stiffer to get the ride i want ?

The air part only governs the bottom out and preload should make no real difference to the "pop" of the bike

Jon careful with pressures you can lose 25psi when the gauge fills on your pump as there is not much air in a rear shock

Nick tks I'm sure could help with set up

Shock pumps have a special twisty bit to stop that happening at least mine does.
you'll get nowhere with a track pump

When you screw it back on ? When you set up shock has 125psi and as you unscrew the valve keeps the pressure in as you screw the pump back on the hose and dial fill with air from the shock hence the 25 psi difference. I might be wrong but that is what I was taught. So the original pressure is the one to trust your shock is prob not leaking.
I might be wrong hence I only have a HT in my stable at the moment :)
