Race in a week or so....
Any suggestion on tactics for a four hour race.
1 Fast and die at the end if I can make it.
2 Pace and hope I get it right over the 4hours and not leave to much not used.
3 Follow someone and hope they now what the are doing..
4 Take plenty of water etc or stop and get refills.
5 basic toolsor go for BROKE.

Any more helpful ideas .
4 hours is a long time for a old knackered man on a ego trip......

Take what you would normally take for a 4 hour ride, loads of water, loads of food, harribo etc.
at 4 hrs its not a race! just dont take risks and pace yourself. i would suggest wearing a heart rate monitor.
padded pants and comfy shoes and socks!

Good luck you mad old "£%£%£"%

Hi,
I thought they had apit stop and you could leave stuff there.

Deff paddied pants my rear is sore from riding already.

When I did the mage last year I carried every thing and top heavy over the bars .
Seat was to high as well.

Do you know if you can actually stop and rest ....

I think a oxygen tank might be better than a heart rate mon. I have one but did not understand the readings so I worked on the basis if I am breathing my hearts working....

They usually have "feed" area's. Is it laps your doing?
If so a garden fork with bottle holders attached to the handles seems to be the ticket. A shopping basket would hold a few bottles and food (Eccles cakes) at the top with tubes and tools etc?

Hi,
Thats a good idea that so as I can reaconise it from the three other idiots doing it.... Ha Ha.....

What you reacon it is 8 mile laps at firth hills ( North of Guildford )
4 hours
lap a hour 32 miles .....
Push 40 maybe.....
My cat is 49 +
Against the S A S ... Para Royal marines .....
Do you think I have a chance of winning ( Not the fancy dress comp. )

I found when I did a few euduro races a few years ago the same as VW said above.i also put energy powders in my water as this keeps fuel in the tank.
also slip into your comfortable rhythm you will find you get less tired and as you overtake flaggers near the end you will get the adrenaline boost to push you on.
Good luck and enjoying it is the key

Don't joke about the starting line :)
I was winding Jamie up about MSG rd2 and had a ruptured appendix 20th of April and have just left hospital for the third time tonight !
My pink glove has magical powers and would love a second race this season :)

Hi,
I am happy to wear any thing .
I only have I thing that will stop me a 10 hour Sunday dayshift at double bobble.
I raced in Fowlmead races but they were only a hour long.
Looking forward to it -should be painfully fun.

Hi,
Which bike is the next one.
Not sure what the course is like .
Have my Camber which I am thinking of using .(not much front suspension.
Big hit is a bit over the top .( heavy for the long haul.)
Hard tail is heavy and needs abit of work and may not be comfortable on the rough bits..
Do not want to take two bikes for options as one left behind might get knicked.
Was going to camp over night but again not sure if possible.
Bob
P.S. have not got to the tyres yet queens 2.4 up front
2.2 at the rear.
