Hi all,

Just found out about this London to Southend Off-Road 'Challenge' in September starting from Upminster football stadium to Hadleigh Country Park on the 1st September.

By all accounts, the route goes through Ingrebourne Valley, Hornchurch Country Park, Rainham Marshes, then along some quiet roads into Benfleet and down into Hadleigh Country Park. Sounds like a fairly simple / easy route to me but would anyone else be on this in aid of the British Heart Foundation? Maybe we can get a group together.

Thanks guys!

Just got my welcome pack in the post! I shall be doing this, and also the London to Brighton off road.

I am still contemplating signing up - Any ideas how technical the route will be? I mean, i'll probably do it anyway but de-tour through Shipwrights before heading down to Hadleigh Country Park - Just for fun!

It's for the masses so I would assume it would be fairly easy going

This is what the BHF are saying about the london to southend. It should be a easy ride.

"Starting with a peaceful ride along Ingrebourne Valley, you could be forgiven for thinking you are already outside the M25, and the feeling continues as you pass through Hornchurch Country Park next. You will see the endless traffic entering and leaving the city, but you continue on a tranquil trail through Rainham Marsh, with wonderful views over the city and estuary.

Joining the Mar Dyke beyond the M25 the track, although flat, the track becomes rough and tough, before some fun bridleways bring you to Basildon. After negotiating the quieter roads through Basildon you approach the edge of Benfleet, where a medley of bridleways winds its way through the town to Hadleigh Castle Country Park, in Southend on Sea to mark the end of the ride."

what they don't tell you is Rainham fucking stinks most of the time :o

Hi,
Yes Rainham does due to all the waterworks /landfills and river Thames and all the rubbish London throws out........(plus I might have a little to do with i ).
Think of this ride as a extended Wed ride out from Lakeside.

And if there is any water on the surface then you'll stink as well and probably be covered in oily water...

I can see how this could look like fun but it kind of looks naff to me!

It looks like the missus does have something planned for me now, so I won't be joining in this year, i am guessing it's going to happen each year, so hopefully if it does I already have the dates in the diary :)
