Looks a nice ride :) where the route follows the B1256 is there a bike path? Quite fancy doing the ride with my son but don't like the idea of a 9 year old on a fast country road  When the route leaves the road is it sign posted ??

It's not really signposted... you have to know where it goes... road is ok to ride on and there is only a footpath on one bit... just past main road bridge in dunmow...just before the wooded section, also this is the boggiest bit.....

Cheers Jamie... we'll give it a go one Sunday. Can always use your Strava track as a guide :)

I think you're safe for a bit.... although he does ride along repeating 'It never gets easier... you just pedal faster' .... so maybe one day ;)

Martin
there is a really nice ride from the B1256 towards Hatfield Forest, no traffic at all, dead straight with the option to dive into Hatfield Forest if you want.
up m11
turn right onto b1256
turn right opposite esso garage
250 yards on your right park under the railway bridge and the upsloping ramp takes you onto the old railway track
