Hi everyone,

Just picked up my GT Karakoram 3.0 from evans this evening. Wanting to do some off roading and some events if I can during the winter to keep training going. Been doing triathlons the passed couple of years my road bike is put away now, its worked hard this year and this is the first a been on a mountain bike for a very long time.

I can see there is a thurrock loop. I would like to ride it but I don't know it. Is there a map someone has put on here of it?

Be great to here from anyone about the area.

Hi Geoff, I can probably get you the gpx if you want it but it's honestly easier to join us one Wednesday or Monday night to do the loop.

If you need lights (and you'll need bright ones, not road ones) then I can lend you a set.

I've not posted the ride here in the calendar for a time so keep an eye on the top right-hand of the screen at the ride calendar and you'll see it pop up.

Hi Stumpie, What time do you start... would like to tag along on time.

We set off at 19:30 from Bannatynes Gym.

Wednesday night has turned into a faster ride that is a little more difficult as we go through the woods and so this time of year it can be harder going.

Monday night is normally a little slower but still sets off at the same time.

I won't be out Monday as I've plans but we'll be out Wednesday and then Monday nights should resume after that.

Hi, thanks David, yeh I be up for the evening rides. I think at first I join on the the Monday one and see how I get on. But I'm up for a challenge of a faster ride. I keep an eye out on your posts/ calendar.

Re lights- I have got a front cateye HL-EL135. It's just a 3 LED one. And a cateye TL-LD155 rear light. Do you think that light is ok or I need brighter ones? If so, would I be able to lend a set until I get better ones. ?

Hi Geoff,

I had cateye lights when I got started and they are fine when you are on streets that are lit but the moment you get away from street lights and/or are in the woods they don't really cut it.

But that's not worry - happy to lend you one of my MagicShine MJ-872s - they take all of 2 mins to fit to the bike and will give you a fairly decent spread of light.

Just come along with your lights as they are and we'll put mine on at the gym.
