Hi everyone

i am aiming to get back into XC/trails biking and as i live in Berkhamsted was hoping i could join you guys and get back into it :)

I used to do alot of jump biking about 7 years ago when i was fearless but now do a fair few commuter miles in London. I love cycling and really want to get into mountain biking.

I was also hoping you guys would be able to advise me on buy a new Mountain bike. Have been looking at the Giant trance and Canyon nerve AL but really need some advise on whats good and suits what i want to do.

Look forward to hopefully meeting up with you guys soon :)

Welcome to the forum. They have both had some good review but the only problem is with the canyon is the mail order route . Best thing to do is try some bikes in a shop, note down the ones you like and find the geometry of them and compeer it to the canyon to see if it is an option for you. Plenty of decent bike shops around now days as well to get what you want

Hi Matt,

I did notice that and has put me off slightly as I would prefer to test the bike first before forking out a load of cash. Has anyone brought a bike from Buckingham bikes in Aylesbury?

I have got a 2007 carrera banshee but is has seen better days and feel like its time for something new and better :-)

I am looking at the £1200 mark for a full suspension xc/trails but happy to go a higher

Henry

The pit falls of internet bike buying...

The most important thing is that the frame is right fit for you and then you can change and upgrade as parts wear out. £1200 is not a lot for a full suser but can still get a few good deals on old stock. Any preferences on wheel size?

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/vitu ... -prod81016 brilliant spec and some good reviews on bike radar

Can only agree with Mattvanders, commencal is really good bike and 2014 is 27,5" Although price for 2014 is nowhere near your budget.
SL looks good and if u upgrade wheels, here is bargain for easton haven for £255

VW-surfbum, where are you based? Be very interested to see the bike and see how it feels?

Also have spoken to my boss and he is happy to do the cycle to works scheme if I buy a new bike so have a bit more money I think. is there a limit to the CWS?

Sandon near danbury, chelmsford.
I have an office closer to you if your around during the day over at London Colney?

CTW is usually a £1000 limit, but some will let you add to it etc.
Check also how long it would take to set up as its a first time thing can take 6+ months.

I've just done the R2W to get my stache for winter use. As far as I'm aware, £1000 is the most you can put on the scheme but you can always buy a more expensive bike and pay the extra up front, I did something similar.

Secondary, if you was interested in the canyons they are at the bike show at excel in a few days time so for the cost of £15ish a ticket you could see what they are like rather than guessing and buying direct.

Cycle show in London is on in Feb 13 - 16 I believe... I'm going on the 14th

Ticket prices vary but do a search and get the codes for cheaper ones.. Think I paid about a tener for mine....
