Here you go Lester ... google maps - https://goo.gl/maps/RRBqz

Strava - http://www.strava.com/activities/117179946/segments/2593257605

HVAC MATT's time was 9:09 but Mattvanders beat us all to the top on the first ride ( Jamie wasn't on that one ) but their times don't show on the EHMTB Strava so Jamie's the official record holder with 8:57.

Enjoy ;)

Yes Jamie was barely alive on Sunday ;) so expect the record to drop :D

I seem to be knocking 20... 30 seconds of each time I try but I've got a really low starting point so it not that hard to improve :lolno:

I've got 9 mins in mind for a a target :o  :?

The first bit of Avey lane is flat... think thats why the segment starts further up.

That looks great to knock a minute off in two weeks!

doesnt it give the option to say what bike is used and is there no handicapping. I mean it must be quicker on a carbon road bike compared to a downhill bike to exaggerate the example

I think most of my improvement is from pacing it better... leaving more for the final steep bit and riding the first bit at a more even pace but really it's from starting from a very slow time

If you are friends with someone on Strava you can click through to the full ride and it shows the bike they used ( or say they used ) but really it's not the point and it doesn't matter ;)

For me it's an easy way of tracking progress and having a bit of fun. I picked Avey lane because it's a long enough climb that you can't just go out and sprint it ( at least I can't ) and because it's road it's not affected by the weather from one week to the next.

Really the only person you're racing is yourself :)

Talking about the times and who's fastest on a forum is just a bit of banter and a way of motivating yourself when you're half way up and just want to stop and push.

So what ever time you post on your Fatty is just as 'valid' as the time I post on my 29er... you just need to go faster the next time

My fatty, says she would prefer me to slow down "its not a race " she says
i rarely say that i will be anywhere these days as i cant always make it, and it seems i let people down.
im hoping to go to epping a couple of times after work this week so maybe i will have a go at avey lane as thats the way i come home from work

Bacon butty & coffee? C'mon guys, this should have been the opening sentence of the topic. Next time we take on the Avey Lane I may have to time it too given its legendary status. Although, it will help me enormously with the uphill pace if there is a cafe on top of the road smelling bacon. Anyway, lets not embarrass myself...I will keep the timing secret to begin with.
