Just saying hello !!!

My name is Suzi, am a complete beginner at mountain biking. I had a road bike and I was cycling 8 miles back and forward to work till it got nicked !!
I have replaced it with a really cheap mountain bike with the intention of maybe cycling round Epping at the weekends. I was going to go by myself but found this group...so thought why not as it said beginners welcome !!
So here I am ...anything on this weekend?

thanks
Suzi

I hope you like getting dirty Suzi?

Epping there's always something going on, even if you just turn up an ride with fellow MTBr's, we're not like those weird roadie types who have to "belong" just grab your bike and ride!

Keep an eye on the calender at the top right.

What you mean mountain biking isn't clean ...oh nooo ;)
will I be likely to break a nail ?

No, I don't mind !!!

ok, I'll keep an eye on the calendar. I was planning on going out this weekend.
What do I do just bowl up and say hello to everyone. Is there any other females?

There are regular rides at a lot of places, epping being one, that have a standing meet at said place at said time. Just turn up and generally everyone gravitates together. They are not usually rides organised by people from here although there will no doubt be riders from here taking part.

often someone from here will post up a ride where every one is welcome and unless stated is more social and ridden at the slowest riders pace. If you post your interest normally they will say what bike or car they have to make meeting up easier.

I don't ride epping much so cant be of more help.

Epping is just a big MTB playground Suzi... Most meet up at High Beach carpark by the green tea hut.. And go from there. Also worth checking the ride calendar on main forum page.. Top right corner. This has some rides posted out.

If you have transport more wide afield places to play on as well...

Oh one final thing... Bacon, you must like this to fit right in ;-) And we are always breaking nails... ;-)

So when u say people meet at high beach ...would this be posted in the calendar as well? Would defo be up for that one!

More of a fried sausage and egg kinda person but bacon comes a close second ...does that count ?

Sausages are a close 2nd to bacons but your a girl so you get these sorts of things wrong, eg bacardi instead of dark rum.

Been meaning to get over Epping myself!, found a route , country lanes & bridleway up 2 Epping high RD which I wanna try but looks like a big one 45 miles or so! The boys at bike active do a regular ride out on a sunday which they told me about so maybe worth a punt!

Surf bum not quite sure of the relevance of your post but not exactly friendly and welcoming is it. So unless you got something productive to say about cycling then don't bother cos I am really not interested

if you are a complete beginner, a good starting place would be on one of the rides organised by Bugeye, look out for them, they usually meet on a sunday at the carpark next to the prince regent hotel in chingford at 10am ish. there is nothing too technical and its a nice ride with friendly folk.
when you are ready to progress try looking at uk bike skills with jedi where a skills session with them is worth every penny.
some people also organise midweek rides at epping.
epping is a little bit boggy still so a riding companion who knows epping would help keep you rolling.
also Heales cycles in hyams park have rides on most sundays into epping for all skill levels.
there is an old saying "no one gets left behind" so as long as you dont mind waiting for the others :-)
