I use a Saris bones, bit awkward with the Spicy as the gap is quite small under the top tube.

Would be great for a normal XC frame style bike.

3 options
Clips with straps to the back of the car, rests on the bumper/bootlid/rearwindow and will damage you paintwork, the cheaperones have a tendancy to move about as weight transfers due to cornering. Some cars now do not have a big enough gap between the panels to get the clips in and you cant open the boot once installed.

Towbar mounted. The best option as it is the easiest to attach to the car and load bikes onto BUT generally costs 400 quid to get the towbar installed and that's every time you change car. on top of that you have the actual rack itself and a light bar if it blocks your lights

Roof bars
Set of roof bars and then bike rack will cost more than the car mounted but less than a towball. will only cost the price of the foot pack to move it between cars

I have the roof bar option, got a thule set by buying from gumtree and ebay. and got the bike holders dirt cheap.

Worth noting the roof option is not great if you have heavy bikes or tall cars or both!

Most roof racks that don't mechanically fix leave marks where the foot pads go.

Cars with roof rails are ideal.

damn i miss my audi Avant :(

Also as I have found out the roof mounted racks do like to drive the petrol a lot more than the rear racks (5 mpg difference minimum for same speeds), but then there is something fun about overtakeing other cars with a bike on the roof :lolno:

I have a rear mount on the corsa Laura and i are sharing and i like it much less as i can see it wobbling at speed!

Roof mounts give you a cool shadow profile too!
